Primarily because my my family members are involved in Facebook.
There are a whole bunch of you that Facebook is telling me I could make friends (based on mutual friends) however I think I will keep NazNet as my primary means of communication with NazNetters.
So don't be offended if I don't make you a friend :)

I have people sending me hugs and pillow fights and flowers to help them grow their internet garden and I always hit "ignore." I hope those people do not get messages that Barb ignored their requests! But being on slow dial up, I do not want to take time to download or upload or whatever it is to "PLAY" on Facebook.
Besides that, I kill plants and flowers. If I accepted them I might kill my Facebook. ha ha ha

I ignore most of those things as well, Barb. I have DSL, but still really don't want to be bothered with them. I think they are great for those who enjoy them, but they really aren't my thing. :) I tell my daughter to send me whatever she want (because it gets her "points"), but not to be offended if I don't post them to my facebook page! HA!

Well, being a Scrabble lover, I will say that I won't ignore a Scrabble request if there is anyone else there who plays.

I've played Scrabble with Jill, but she is really good at it and well, it may look otherwise but at Scrabble, it really shows that English is a second language for me. I'm sorry Barbara!

Isn't English your 4th or 5th language, Hans? :D I can remember a few words from French classes but man, I remember a Finnish exchange student in HS who was killing us all in French class AND in English! LOL! She also knew German. <shaking my head>

Well, the first would obviously be Dutch. I do think English would be second. I can get along in French and to some extent even German, but I don't use these two languages a lot so they have become quite "dusty". I do regret I know nothing of Spanish though, and I regret I didn't give more attention to languages in highschool. Looking back, I'm now convinced that foreign languages (at least for us Dutch) are the most important thing you learn there.
BTW, are there no French speaking Nazarene churches in Canada?

I'll join Barbara in saying don't be offended if I don't approve you as a Facebook friend. I use F/B as a way to stay in touch with students, former students, and fellow educators. It began as an educational site and works well for me in that way.
Naznet is a great place to come and go as I have time ... and to stay in touch with Naznet friends.

I have no idea! I knew only a very few Francophones as I lived in the westernmost province. I've never been even close to Quebec and of course I was not Nazarene when I lived in Canada so it was never something I needed to know. I have the impression most of them are culturally Catholic but I'm truly not sure.

I live where I can look across the River ( Ottawa R ) to la belle province (Quebec ) . As the crow flies probably a mile away .Our nearest Nazarene churches are in the Montreal area ( about 100 miles ) . When I was growing up they were all English speaking there and it was Ontario and Quebec on one district , though they had some French speaking people as members and attendees . Now there are several French / Creole Haitian churches . I used to get to the Quebec District Ladies Retreats ( in fact a number of our Ottawa ladies did ) and they would have an English speaker and a French speaker and would split into groups for that part but the meals , fellowship and singing were in both languages . More recently a French church has been begun in Quebec City. Haven't heard about it for a long time but I assume its still going ahead .
I took French in school for 9 years ( 5- 13 ) but I didn't start till grade 5 . They start earlier now . However , I used Spanish more in my job as a nurse than French though there are many French speaking people here and when you call a local company sometimes they answer in French first ! You always have an option to have French instead of English .
A number of French TV channels as well. Probably 4 or 5 or more on basic cable . Many signs are bilingual and all food packaging . Its just always been that way for me.

I won't be offended if you don't want me to be your friend. :) I'm glad that Dave let us know about Facebook, as I had not signed up for one before his post here on NazNet.
I'm so glad that I did. I didn't know that I had so many friends that are not on NazNet that I haven't been in touch with in years.
I have over 90 something friends in a short time that I have signed up. It unbelievable! I didn't know that I had so many friends through my journey of BNC/SNU days, friends from the Districts, and just contacts of Nazarenes that I know who never come to NazNet. There are many more of them that I hope will someday sign up on Facebook so we can make contact with each other.
The Lord has just expanded my territory!! Thank you Father for all of your abundant blessing to me with wonderful christian friends and now a way to have contact with them as often as I have the time. At least, I now can have some idea of how they and their families are doing.
I, also, found a beautiful song sung by a beautiful German lady. She was singing "Ole Lang Zion". I don't remember just how to spell it, but you get the picture. :)

In one way, it seems weird to turn down a "friend."
On the other hand, if I were to set up Facebook, I probably would turn down most of the people who would pop up as my "friends."
They are not really friends, for the most part, but acquaintances. They could become friends. They could be "real" friends. But initially they are just people.
Since I'm not in the habit of going out just to meet people, I probably would continue this pattern in a Facebook setting.
I really have enough of a time trying to squeeze in a lunch here and there with my current friends. Adding more people to my list to ignore or not have time for seems like too much pressure.
I know, I know, you social people probably thinks that's weird :)

Not at all, actually. It's an issue I have wrestled with myself. But finally, I figured I had the freedom to define who I would consider a friend.

Hans, and another + for me is that I don't need a moderator to protect me! :)
