"Sen. John McCain's senior domestic policy adviser said Tuesday that the BlackBerry mobile e-mail device was a "miracle that John McCain helped create."...Telecommunications of the United States, the premiere innovation in the past 15 years, comes right through the Commerce Committee. So you're looking at the miracle that John McCain helped create," Holtz-Eakin said. "And that's what he did. He both regulated and deregulated the industry." CNN

Actually...no....the BlackBerry was developed by the Canadian company Research In Motion (RIM).

As reported by Amie Parnes (http://www.politico.com/blogs/jonathanmartin/0908/HoltzEakin_McCain_helped_create_BlackBerry.html?sh owall), on the trail with McCain...

Asked what work John McCain did as chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee that helped him understand the financial markets, the candidate's top economic adviser wielded visual evidence: his BlackBerry.

"He did this," Douglas Holtz-Eakin told reporters this morning, holding up his BlackBerry. "Telecommunications of the United States is a premier innovation in the past 15 years, comes right through the Commerce Committee. So you're looking at the miracle John McCain helped create and that's what he did."

Sorry, I don't know the nuances of American TV news. Is Amie Parnes significant?

The point that I was trying to make was not that McCain was taking credit for the BlackBerry.

I was trying to make the point that America was taking credit for the BlackBerry. But only in a humourous way. Note smiley.

Keep running with this. Maybe we can get a crazy statement into the public consciousness like the idea that Al Gore said he invented the internet.

Oh Barbara...I too should have used a smiley. :) I just happened to be reading about the whole Blackberry thing when I saw your post. Some were making a big deal about it, when in fact, the adviser was talking about telecommunications in general, not his Blackberry.

Am sorry if my post was brusque. Was not my intention. :fav14
