We just returned home from the first Mccain Palin combined town hall meeting. It occurred about a mile from our house and since we like to be where history is when we get a chance we had no choice but to try to go.The tickets were reletivly easy to get. I sent an e mail to the Kent County republican party and the next day I waited in line for about half an hour and got my tickets.

The event occued in an unairconditioned gym with about 4000 other people so it was little sticky. They had marching bands, Obama supporters protesting outside, a vriety of speeches by local politicians and everything a political rally should have.

The format was unscripted questions and answers. Both did really well on the questions. For the most part they tried to respond directly to the question. There was a couple of times where Mccain and Palin answer had nothing to do with the question but for the most part they were on message with the question.

Both were as we generlly ssee them on tv. Mccain was folksey and methodical and Palin was as dynamic in real life as she was in the speech.

With regards to my feelings about the event it was just neat to be there. We stood in line for 6 hours to walk by Gerald Fords casket 2 years ago so its fun to be there in history. Either way in this election we have history on the ticket.

IMHO the Obama trashing was minimul. They spoke in terms of contrasting views but not in terms of the negative comerical content.

I haven't heard Palin but had the opportunity to host a dinner for McCain and his staff on the night before he kicked off his South Carolina no surrender tour. I was pleasantly suprised that he really does have a good sense of humor, was completely at ease with the crowd that was there and was nothing like he is portrayed by the media. I went to the official kickoff the next morning in Rock Hill and I noticed that when he was there with the media, the protesters and the politicians he was much more formal and stiff. A reporter for the Rock Hill Herald interviewed me as commander of the VFW and I was grossly misquoted (written article) so I can imagine what it is like for him. I learned a long time ago that most of the time when someone wants to interview you they have already decided what you are going to say.

I learned a long time ago that most of the time when someone wants to interview you they have already decided what you are going to say.

I had a friend that learned that lesson the hard way. He was interviewed by the paper in our Florida town and the answer "he gave" in the paper to a question about religion and youth was really interesting. He felt they used a statement from another question and inserted it for the question they wanted. Needless to say, it made anyone that would wear the title "religious" look like a near total idiot. Then they called to ask him a follow-up! Needless to say he didn't get quoted again.

I was interviewed by a local TV station back in January 1979 at a anti-abortion march with my younger son who had pinned to his coat a sign saying, "I'm Adopted." They aired all of what I said which was "We have to stop killing babies."

Wondered if you & Nan ended up going there, since you wondered about it several days ago.

Of course! That's how desert dwellers are, Bob! :basic05

Yes, seems I recall hearing you two talk of being part of Gerald Ford's funeral line.
