If you didn't see the trade news today, here it is...

Not sure what I think about it yet as a Patriots fan. One thing I do wish for all NFL, NBA, MLB and whatever other leagues out there do is when they dump a player by trade, waiver, etc. and get compensated for doing so, it that the fans who bought up all the jerseys and regalia to support "their" player would also be compensated for their support that fed the system.

(No, I did not own or purchase a Randy Moss jersey...but my Jason Bay shirt sat unused in the drawer all summer...)

There's a lot of Vikings fans who can break their #84 jerseys out of storage now.

I was surprised to hear the news, until I learned he'd asked for a trade. Probably best to send him off to Minnesota, and maybe the Patriots can return to their pre-Moss glory. I could be way off-base here, but he seems to me like one of those players who will always put up good numbers and never win a championship.

I will say one thing Shea, and you might be right about impressive numbers, but it was quite exciting football to watch Tom Brady and Randy Moss get going. I just wonder if that same chemistry (if you want to call it that) can be reproduced with Brett Favre. Any thoughts on that?

His Jersey number in Minnesota was 84 by the way.

Hmmm... Favre is a different animal, but I am guessing Moss will add some flash to favre's game. I'm also guessing that the Vikings will not sniff the Super bowl.

I agree, and I'm sorta laughing (not at you) because I really think Favre is going to embarrass himself this year and taint his legacy. I wish that were not so, but I'm afraid it isn't looking good.

Thats funny... I wouldnt be suprised if the vikes/nfl give him a new number to generate more merchandise profits sales....

Also seems Pats fans are relieved to see Moss go in the same way there were few tears shed in Dallas when TO took off to buffalo.

I think the biggest thing that the Pats will miss with Moss are not his receptions (Welker and the Tight Ends are bigger targets this year, and Welker has been consistently) but the way he stretches the field. Every defensive coordinator has to plan for Moss. He routinely gets matched up with the best DB of the opposing team and he opens the passing lanes for Welker and company. So while running wind sprints every down gets pretty frustrating for Moss, it helps the Pats win games. I just wonder how many passes Welker will catch with Darrelle Revis matched up on him all game long instead of on Moss? I would look for Welker's production to go down with this move and the Tight Ends to become the featured receivers.

...or when TO left Philly for Dallas :P. Seems to be a connection here, involving the #81.

That's certainly one way to look at it. There was some "NFL insider" talking yesterday- don't recall the station- about how most of the good DBs could tell when Moss was actually a target, because if he was running a "decoy" route, he never ran full speed. I don't really study Moss's tape, but for some reason that wouldn't surprise me.
