The sub title of this book defines its intent: The Doctrine of Sanctification in the Church of the Nazarene 1905--2004. Quanstrom traces the history of the doctrine of sanctification from the earliest days of the COTN....how the understanding of the doctrine has evolved....and some of the main issues that the COTN faces today in its understanding and teaching of the doctrine.
After reading the book , I once again read Dr. Wynkoop's " Theology of Love " ( 3rd reading for me )......and H. Ray Dunning's " Grace, Faith and Holiness". Quanstrom's book sparked a lively discussion among a group of ministers at our recent Pastors and Spouses Retreat. I recommend Quanstrom's book as a source book for a historical perspective on the doctrine as taught in the COTN......and as a stimulus to further reading and reflection on the doctrine of sanctification.

I thought the book was really good. It did provide a good historical analysis of the doctrine of entire sanctification over the history of the Church of the Nazarene.
My one gripe with the book is that Quanstrom gets a bit repetitive restating his thesis over and over and so the book does get a bit boring at times.

I bought this book for my daughter for Christmas a year ago and then started reading it and had to order another copy for her. We both enjoyed it.
One interesting aspect of the book for me was how it pulled me back to it as to a novel as the progression of holiness thinking in the church was unveiled. In between times of reading I kept wondering what was going to happen next.

Keith Drury has a review of this book on Amazon. His opinion is that Nazarenes should read it but others should wait for something more encompassing. He seems to think that because it is Nazarene specific some important elements are overlooked or treated too briefly.
