Editing a Post

I have been trying to find the link to edit one of my posts. If it was posted before a certain time (for instance, more than two days ago), can I not edit it? Why not?

It is considered bad form to write something, and then after people have responded, to go back and change it.

Many forums only allow 1 hour - to let a person see it and catch any typo, etc. We are trying to find middle ground -- surely a day is long enough to find something that they need to correct.
