Hannie and I went to this area along the Belgium/German border this week. We found a quiet cabin and had a good time walking and driving around in the area. Without a doubt, Autumn is the most beautiful time of the year!
I also took Hannie to the same restaurant along the river Mosel where I had been 2 months ago with a good friend of mine. She loved it!
Pictures can be found here (http://picasaweb.google.com/h.deventer/2008LesHautesFagnes#). Below you can find some already:

Thank you! It looked great while walking there, but I wondered how I could capture it. So I tried to find a non-regular perspective by getting low to the ground and seeking lines.

Photographically, I loved the second picture, but it made me pause. Considering the region, and considering period images I have seen, all I could think about was Americans and Germans fighting in the snow.
Hans, may I use some of these as wallpaper?
Once again, thank you for expanding my own horizons and allowing me to travel along with you and Hannie.

Sure! If you want the original ones, just say so.

Funny you should say that, it made me think of images of WWII also. Of course I watched a movie centered around WWII yesterday, so that might have something to do with it.
It certainly is a fabulous picture.

Hans: I am so amazed by the color changes for fall. In Arizona we go from brown to brown, we have two seasons, hot and not as hot.
These are so beautiful, makes me think about moving some place where I could actually see the change of seasons. But that would include the possibility of snow, and I am allergic to snow so I'll just stick with hot and not as hot, LOL.
Hans, thanks for sharing.

Kevin, of course, the other thought hit me as well...it is an image of peace and quiet...no longer a place of destruction.

Thanks. I have a question about your trip. When you were out on your walks, were you on private land or was the area a public park? I realy enjoyed the images of the small towns. Do people look at you strangly when you shoot the town? Or are there plenty of tourists in the area?

Me, too. But then, one of my majors in college was history...history is always on my brain.

It is a national park. Both Monschau and Bernkastel are quite well known tourist destinations, so there were no surprised looks.
