and Im not sure if this should be on this board or another one.
Somewhere in the scripture, or maybe the idea has beem handed down, it says that "they gambled for His robe" while He was on the Cross. My question is "why?"
If He was considered an imposter, or a heretic, why would they want His robe? Was it just another notch in their belt? Were they that poor that they couldnt afford clothes? Was the robe He wore of any monetary value? Was this robe proof that He died this shameful death?

It is my understanding that indeed clothing was at a premium during the time of the Crucifixtion. Add to that the military culture of the day in which the spoils of the vanquished were typically raffled or distributed among the victors and the fact that gambling occured for the robe of Christ is not so unfathomable. Then again, I could be way off the mark!

Not only that, but I have heard that Galilean homespun was considered quite nice and since it was seamless they didn't rip it. Of course, it is also fulfilling the prophecy of Psalm 22.
