View Full Version : Why I have been slow to return - just so you know

I have only been visiting Naznet briefly of late and written very few posts. Then the great crash of twenty ten happened and it has taken me a long time to return, I thought I probably should let you know why.

Three reasons:

First, I am basically lazy. When I could see that I was going to have to re-register and replace Icons and signature lines I put it in my "to do" list which is a different list from my, "get it done" list.

Secondly, and with most impact, my studies are keeping me way too busy. When you add in work and church the times I get to switch off I find I am not drawn to wanting to think too much. So I have found it hard to think through posts particularly if the subject matter is important. I've taken to playing Farmville to switch off rather than visiting Naznet.

The last reason is that when I came back and saw the board had gone I realised that all of Brad's memorial stuff and his many posts were probably gone too. I was particularly troubled by the loss of the thread he did on holiness which I think was a crucial one. I guess each time I visited I felt the deep pang of his absence once again - that kind of made it hard to overcome the other issues.

Be that as it may-I'm back.

Well darn, I was hoping you'd be gone for good!

Okay, seriously, I'm just kidding. It is really nice to have you back. You're a valuable part of this community here, Roland.

Some of Brad's stuff has been retrieved, but please know that some of us were especially wounded when you were absent along with Brad. Glad your studies are challenging you, but please hit some button on here occasionally, so we know you're still with us. It was like a blackout in the southern hemisphere.

Thanks Dennis, that actually means a lot to me. Let's do lunch again sometime.

Dennis , have you forgotten David Graham ? He has represented that southern hemisphere most nobly ! Not that you haven't been missed , Roland . Need to keep our commonwealth contingent as high as possible !

Roland, I had the same feeling so I went ahead, searched for posts from Brad that I had saved and reposted them here http://www.naznet.com/community/showthread.php?62-Posts-from-Brad-Mercer-reposted-by-Hans&highlight=brad+mercer

Charlotte sent me some more that I still need to check out.

Roland, I always value your contribution. I too have been slow to return. I think this will be my 3rd post. Even before the crash I was drifting away a bit. I'm still debating whether to re-engage.

1. I really dislike the fact that when someone Googles my name that NazNet posts come up. While I'm happy to share my thought within the family, my ministry and work takes me way beyond the CON, and will not always be understood.
2. I find fewer constructive conversations then even a year ago when I first joined NazNet.
3. Being outside the USA I find the current political climate less than enlightening--especially in that it seems to unexpectedly bleed into conversations.
4. I almost always post after 11:00pm at night--and I should probably be resting, but the characters here in this forum are difficult to resist.

Well, if you intend to leave, at least know that I have very much appreciated getting to know you through your posts, as well as the content of your contributions. I agree with #3 though, which is why I keep away from the CE forum as much as I can.

Not following it as much as catching up from time to time. It is a pretty awesome endeavor. It doesn't matter how you look at it that is one courageous kid. Not long after she started on her trek to become the youngest ever person to sail around the world a girl four months younger set out from California to do the same and snatch the record from her within weeks of establishing it. I think she lasted a couple of weeks at sea and gave up. The only down side is how do you live the rest of your life trying to top what she is about to achieve?

I remember when I was taking master's classes. Work all day, read all night. I remember losing my interest in reading and wondered if I would ever get it back. So I understand.

Also understand the laziness. I almost didn't re-register, but finally found a moment.
