Proactive Security Auditor FE (Freeware Edition) is a free, small, fast and easy to use program to assist system administrators and ordinary users to keep their computers secure by identifying what security updates are installed on local and remote machines, and allowing to download and install missing patches from Microsoft web site.

I like it much, makes life easier. Pretty small and effektive.
For example, I am able to underpress automatic downloads of codecs for MS Media Player. Everytimes a port will be opened, exists a not needed higher security risk. To answer the firewall question, "Do you allow MS Media Player to connect Internet?" is past - the same for other programs, like to load updates, nobody likes to have on his harddrive without to know it.
