A friend of mine is without AC in this heat. Her AC broke last week, she called the company to fix it, they neglected to order the needed part and now she is hopping mad at them. It is supposed to be mid 90s again tomorrow.

Reminds me of visiting my grandparents in the East St Louis area as a kid. Summers there were pretty nasty too - 100 + temps with humidity almost as high. I would plant myself in front of the creaky old fan and beg God for mercy.

Could definitely stand the extra heat out West (southwest) better, much better, than the extra cold here up north. That's hibernation time ... but I don't like the isolation hibernation brings with it. NEED back to where it's warm!

I go back and forth turning it up and down. If I am at my computer or at one end of my couch I have it set higher. If I am in my lazy boy or practice area, or cleaning then I have it set lower. It is because of where the ceiling vents are located...and then where I am located.

And a blessed pentecost it was!
We sang Come Holy Spirit I Need Thee, followed by The Comforter Has Come and finished with Where The Spirit of The Lord Is.
Since the sermon was an introductory to the prodigal son, I changed things up for the second set and;
We sang Above All, followed by I Will Serve Thee Because I Love Thee.
To combine the two messages we closed with Softly and Tenderly.

Since might be as many reading here as in Prayer/Praise forum, will mention some friends I just talked to (we'll post over there, too, since that's the "official" place for such things). They were some ordered to evacuate a few days ago near Sierra Vista, AZ. Said they went back a couple of days later, and there was no one telling them they couldn't return. Then they noticed their neighbors didn't seem to be back ... called Sheriff's Dept today, and were told the evacuation had not yet been lifted.
Praying it doesn't reach them ... or at least that if it does, they'll have sufficient warning to hightail it out of there again (& that their vehicle which, of all times, died as they drove into their yard & would not start up again, will go, now that they've recharged it -- alt wasn't putting juice into the battery, I guess). Man, oh man ... beginning to sound like some of those California fires over in Arizona.
EDITED to add this:

http://www.kpho.com/story/14944829/brewer-sends-national-guard-to-wiildfires
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AND my niece ... whose seizures they're still trying to figure out (may be accident-related, tho' didn't start very soon thereafter, tho' she's not been known to have them before, and had several lately). ALSO, that she won't be tempted to drive, as she did today. Thinks she'd feel something coming on to be able to stop ... but not so sure. Grew up w/a guy @ church who tho't that ... ended up w/a dead brother when he was driving one day & had one. Can imagine, tho', that not being able to drive and being out a ways where you have to to get to anything can be frustrating ... but also could be deadly, if one doesn't just break down & ask for/wait for someone else to do the driving. I know I'd go stir-crazy if it were me, I think. Says she won't after several of us "got on her" for doing that ... let's pray she won't get frustrated enough to do it again until they're under control, or whatever.
Sasha didn't used to like them, either. Ginger, Ma's dog, is one funny dog, tho', when scared. She comes to wherever you're sitting and, if it's not something she can jump up onto easily, she'll push and push until she can hide under your legs! ;)
Yeah, and she's got an 8-yr-old gal, too. The 19-yr-old knows more of what's going on and it gets to her! (not to mention those of us who are "onlookers" even). He doesn't always talk about how he feels, but we learned what the 12-yr-old tho't b/c of his writing that on his FB page.
Not in Ottawa . Public had more opportunity of getting closer to them, too . Can't say the same of their visit to Quebec City today . Apparently the protestors were out in full force but you have to remember these are the same people who want to separate from Canada . All except from the money the rest of Canada gives them . I am sure that is the only reason they haven't been successful . They kept Will and Kate away from people to a large extent in Quebec as a precaution . The protesting was expected there . If there were any in Ottawa they weren't on our news but with almost 1400 reporters here and from 14 countries , including Qatar and India , there were bound to be some reporters looking for the worst .
Did anyone see what Kate wore for Canada Day festivities ? White suit /dress ( can't remember which ) but red shoes and a red hat / fascinator with red maple leaves on it . That was sweet of her to plan that ahead like that . Looked great !
9 posts this time and I only did one as I completely forgot to go back . Managed 2 hours and 8 minutes , though .
Got my enhanced drivers licence today ( $ 40 extra ) and I can now travel to the States again by land or sea , just not by air . Haven't been able to since June of 2009 .
Explain an enhanced drivers license. I haven't been out of the USA since 1981.
yeah, that sounds interesting. Haven't driven to Canada since 2001 so don't know the new rules.
Thanks for the reminder. Will have to see what such a license is here now; I'd forgotten you could do anything but an approximately $100 passport!
Its instead of a passport but only to the US and only by land or sea . Can't use it to fly across the border . A lot cheaper than a passport and in Canada passports only last 5 years . There are only certain places that will process these enhanced licences .
Called Service Ontario that handles it here but not all outlets . Had to go downtown to get it and will have to do all renewals there from now on . There were extra questions to answer and a special face recognition photo taken . They had to do mine 3 times before it was OK .
The nearest outlets besides the one I went to were in Cornwall ( about 70 miles) or Kingston ( 100 miles ) so had to get a friend to take me as I hate driving downtown and parking would be bad . The closest we could get was several blocks walking away .She couldn't even drop me off closer . Turned out to be city hall. I thought I'd never make it as even with my walker I don't walk that far without a rest . We managed to get a wheelchair inside and were able to use that to go out so leaving was far easier than coming in .
Gina seems to think enhanced licences are available in the states as well. I have no knowledge of that .
Then the licence was sent by courier so had to leave a note on my door for them to take it next door to my neighbour's so she could sign for it as I don't open the door unless I know someone is coming and the best I had on this was 2 to 3 weeks ! ( It was actually 2 weeks 1 day ! )
Besides that they 'd be gone by the time I made it to the door .
They had them on the 5th, too, huh? That's nice. [Or was it raining there on the 4th, so they were delayed?]
Marg: you mentioned I think they have such a license in the US. Yes, seemed, after reading your post, that some vague memory of such went off ... hope it was right, and not just wishful thinking. Think I'll go google right now, in fact. ;)
OK, this is what I found in a couple of places. Could've sworn I'd heard more border states were issuing them [such as AZ, etc, down south, too, not just a couple northern ones]. But, so far, this is all we know:
The following states are issuing this type of WHTI-compliant document: Michigan, New York, Vermont and Washington.
If this is currently correct, this is very odd. But, tho't I'd heard of them here. Sure enough.
