Well it's a great, great mornin'
Your first day in Heaven,
When you stroll down the Golden Avenue.
There are mansions left and right
And you're thrilled at every sight
And the saints are always smiling sayin', "How did you do that?"
Oh it's a great, great mornin'
You're first day in Heaven,
When you realize you snagged the big 6K!.
You'll be glad you were not idol,
Took time to read Marks long thread,
It's a great mornin' for you.
I had a dream, I must confess, I hated to awake.
I dreamt this thread was setting at 5998.
I can almost hear Mark saying, "I must get on in.
I can snarf that post already, it's a big, big win!."
So then I threw off the covers and sprang to my feet.
I posted then a time or two then on to victory!
Well it's a great, great mornin'
Your first day in Heaven,
When you stroll down the Golden Avenue.
There are mansions left and right
And you're thrilled at every sight
And the saints are always smiling sayin', "How did you do that?"

I just checked the webcam in Caribou, they still have snow on the ground there, I'm guessing that it will be gone by the time I get up there on Monday.
They are showing highs in the lower 40's with rain coming in for Sunday.
Hopefully we will get a good dip in temps so that we can get a good lasting snow cover by Christmas!

Funny ... wonder where exactly that saying came about ... must be they do do that, however anytime I've seen them they were waddling around, and not slowly. The only "possum that was (n't playing) dead" was the one in the bottom of the pool that I got out of there out in Cali.

Gina Stevenson
November 26th, 2011, 04:02 PM
Later in the day I called to see about an electric 1/2-price teapot, figuring there'd not be a big run on them earlier. Sure enough they had several left, so I went there, got a 3rd-from-door parking spot [cool!], which was good since my back's giving me fits again ~~ as if there's another herniated disc.
So, anyway ... now I'm gingerly going out again to see about 100% cotton thermal underwear, as cotton/poly does not feel as warm/nubs sometimes. SAD when one lives where they even have to HAVE this stuff! :(

Well, I don't have any of that nice 100% cotton thermal underwear ... due to false advertising, I got there and found this "100% cotton thermal underwear" was actually 60% cotton/40% polyester! That's the sort I'm wanting to dump/pass to someone who doesn't mind it when I actually find 100% cotton! To me, having a piece or two of the all-cotton, the cotton/poly (aside from some nubbing), the mix just is not the same feel/warmth as 100% cotton. That really irked me ... I'd like them to pay me mileage ... after all, look how far I went to get this, only went there for one thing ................
Ho-hum.

We haven't had this in the past , unless you count Boxing Day sales but don't think they were ever as good as your Black Friday ones . However , that said , stores here are catching on , mainly to keep people in Canada and buying here instead of rushing off to the States for your sales . Especially people as close to the border as I am .

I just gave the money last year and told those I was giving on behalf of what their gifts were . The actual person's name was not asked for . And I even got an E-mail later asking me how the money was to be spent though I had itemized it all on line . Think that was the first year it was on line so maybe they have improved there . Our NMI president mentioned this morning you can get gift cards and the person can choose what he/ she supports . I think I'll call them tomorrow for some more info .

Right about that, Marg! Last night when I went out for water, I in no way wanted to go! In fact went later than planned, too ... when you have to psyche yourself up to go outside, that's not cool. The blow-through-you wind was just miserable! Brrrrrrrrr!!!
We did end up not getting the snow they'd been promising ... it was a freaky pattern that was to the east and south of us, when usually anything around here moves from the west ["lake effect" from Lake Michigan]. That was OK, to miss it ... but it was soooooo nasty cold/windy last night. Ugh! And it's only starting !!!! Months of it yet! :(

Just 7 posts today and my one almost made it for a half a day, less 12 minutes !
My appt at the Ottawa hospital , Civic campus , where I did my nurse's training , cost me $ 10.50 for parking . Less than an hour and a half . And parking was a premium. My friend had a terrible time finding a spot . The lot opposite emergency where I had been told I could park was full , the next one as well and she ended up at the very top of a parking garage ! Funny you asked - my daughters were just asking me the same question this morning.
I don't like Florida because the temp tends to stay too constant in the 80s so not quite warm enough for me. The desert is out because it gets too cold at night. I guess a bit further south here in Texas would probably work. I love the hill country of Texas enough to tolerate the cold if I was ever blessed enough to move there.
How are things here? I haven't had a chance to naznet much.

Cold here too. 63' right now and expected to drop all the way to 61' tonight. My blood never seems to thicken and I just stay cold all winter.
Hey Tinker, great to see you back!
My experience is that the morning temps need to be consistently in the thirties before I start adapting. Once I'm over the rough part, I'm good without a coat down to the teens. I have been know to work in a tee shirt when it is in the thirties.
Of course it is an entirely different sensation when it gets real cold -20 to -40, it doesn't really feel cold, it does feel painful but strangely not cold.
A couple of years ago we set a new state record for cold up here. When I awoke on Jan 18, it was -46 at my house. Cold enough that you have to breath through something and breath slowly or you will burn your throat. Very strange to go from inside to outside with a 114 degree change in temperature.
On the other hand 70 degrees is about my limit. Anything over that and I'm really uncomfortable.

When it was 67 last week I was miserable. Unlike you though, I can handle the cold right from the git go. In fact, I will lay my coat out just to make sure I know to put the thing on because I am enjoying just pure colder air too much to remember such a thing as a 'coat'.
The winter of 94 was a cold one for us in northern PA. If memory is correct it was -20 or so or maybe even colder for many of those days. We lost 12+ days of school that month because it was so cold.

Hey Tinker, great to see you back!
My experience is that the morning temps need to be consistently in the thirties before I start adapting.
I spent a year in Germany and never adapted. Humid or dry doesn't seem to make a difference either. Cold is below 90'. Though I can handle the 80s in a T-shirt and shorts. 70s and I have to put on pants and wear long-sleeves.

Holy cow....
The only time I've been "cold" when it was 70 outside was when my thyroid was not working well.

Right now 49 is warmer than the inside of our house in Maine. I got a call from the monitoring system last night saying that the heat had gone out and it was 40 degrees inside. I was planning on driving up today to stay for the week anyways, so I didn't call the oil company. I've got a decent fire going in the wood furnace and the temp is up to 45 now. It will be a nice cool night to sleep for sure!

Finally got the bathroom remodel at the Maine house done! Now the house is all cleaned up and ready so that we can enjoy it this winter!
I forgot to mention earlier that we don't have a fireplace in Maine, we have a wood furnace that we use while we are there. The house is heated by oil otherwise.

Snow at least makes winter fun. A dry winter takes all the fun out of it for me. Bring on the snow.
But too much of it is devasting . When you can't see your car because is buried in snow or your car's rear looks like a station wagon the way the snow piles on , and you can't get out of your driveway because the snow is so deep and the plow has been but your snow cleaner hasn't , all my joy of winter disappears . And we get far too much of that here . Then add to that difficulty getting around without the snow and ice and that is 10 times times worse .

Wednesday, December 14
Psalm 143:1-6 Micah 3:8-5:15; Revelation 12:18-13:10
All the people responded with a great shout when they praised the Lord,
because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. Ezra 3:11
No one can lay any foundation other than the one that has been laid;
that foundation is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11
O Rock of Ages, we cling to you. When we fall on slippery slopes we
create for ourselves, your foundation is always there to provide for us
a safe place to land. All glory in Jesus Christ. Amen.

Bib Interpretation was a shocker for me. I despised writing especially research papers. I also always do poorly on this. But for this class, I did quite well and discovered that exegetical papers are easier to research than a History, French or Spanish paper ever was.
I am doing MPP. I already have some BAs so there was no need to get yet another one.

Temp was 22, yesterday morning, this morning it's 43. If you don't like the weather just wait, It will change!
Temps are staying below freezing in Maine, but the ground wasn't frozen when we got the snow, so we have lost more than half of it. There's only a few inches on the ground now with a few more inches added last night in the St. John valley. Doesn't look like we will be riding Christmas week. Oh well, we missed the whole month of January last year, but we still had a couple feet of snow on the ground in April. Nothing beats snowmobiling when the temps are in the fifties!

Congratulations , Glenda , on your snarf of post # 6200.
Just 5 posts and mine got 5 hours and 31 minutes and 8 hours and 8 minutes .
And yes , Susan , my ride up was heavenly ! No more struggling to get up those stairs and fearful of falling on the way down .
Had to thaw out my car for about 20 minutes before I could drive today as it was encased in ice . Freezing rain the whole time I was out and still coming down .To change to snow about midnight . Most of the driving was OK except some side streets and then there was lots of sliding and slow moving .

Those are "every cloud has a silver lining" snarfs! Which means that they aren't really snarfs at all. I find that if I take nothing and pretend that it's something, I can get all happy about it!

It works Gina! I've done this for many years, I must warn you that it doesn't always work though, the trick is to just keep trying it. It's worth it even if it only works half of the time!

We have the cold up in Maine, but still no snow! We need to get the snow before the great lakes freeze or it will be a real cold dry winter.

Way over there you get "lake effect" snow, too!?! Well, I never . . . Knew places just 2the east of them did, but that far east of us? Wow!

17 this time with well over half made by just two folk . Managed 8 minutes with my first post and 2 hours 49 minutes with the second .
The ground here is covered with a lite amount of snow . Main roads are clear but over by the church they are snow covered. A little grass pokes through here and there . We are to get 1 to 2 inches snow after midnight and with it being so cold none will melt . Apparently the definition here of a white Christmas is 1 inch of snow on the ground at 7AM Christmas Day . Current temp is 4 º with a wind chill of -11º. It sure is cold out there .Almost didn't get in my car as the door was frozen shut .
