I think my goal is to be last one to post at night. All be it that it is usually actually morning. If I manage to post after everyone else has gone to bed then I usually get about 5 or 6 hours out of it. Of course when I start back to work in January I will have a little more trouble managing it.

That was a huge camper but I'm surprised it was so hard on a one ton pickup. From what I hear a tow rig like yours is highly sought after by trucking companies. They love getting hold of a medium duty commercial truck like that. Even full time RVers don't put even a small percentage of the miles on it that a trucking company does.

Our camper weighs in at around 7500 dry and our Tundra is rated at 10,500. I sure hope we don't end up with some of the problems you had with the first truck!

I should admit that I'm not really a gentle driver. I have no qualms driving a thousand miles a day, and I generally move at a good clip, so I may be partly to blame for killing the little truck.

You are right about the miles though. We have had this truck for going on twelve years now and it is just coming up on 60,000 miles. We used to camp a lot more before we bought the other house, now we use it mostly for campmeeting and an occasional outing.

I found a picture of the old camper, but not the pickup. The truck we still have was painted white back then.

I'm thinking that you will have good luck pulling a 7,500# camper with a 10K rated truck. Especially if you drive reasonably, I can't help but think that you are a very reasonable fellow!

Nice! Is that a kitchenette slide out I see above the wheels?

I would love to get back to something that size once it is just the two of us again. I have decided that there will be no more big trucks, if there is to be another camper it must be towable with something that we already own.

This spring, I had gotten the idea to trade both camper and truck in for something smaller. Between the trade in loss and the price of a new Airstream, I have retreated back to the status quo.

The slide out is the smallest slide out around, basically it moves the couch back, giving a bit more floor space. The camper isn't our first choice. We want our son and his family to be able to use it too, so we bought (1) a bumper pull rather than a 5vr and (2) a camper with bunk beds for the kids. We hope to do quite a bit of traveling with our next rig and we'll probably end up with a 24' or 26' 5ver.

Still, by replacing the bunks with a walk in closet/pantry, this one would be a pretty nice match for us if we were headed out for more over the road use.

For time actually on the road, I think your set up is terrific. Once in a campground, though, I wouldn't like having that big truck for sight seeing, etc.

My RV philosophy is:
1. Seasonal camper: small/medium bumper pull
2. Lots of time on the road with longer stays: 5th Wheel
3. Lots of time on the road with shorter stays: Motor Home with toad

It can still be washed, here's a trick that works as long as it is warmer than 20 degrees. Put the truck in a heated garage overnight. When it is time to wash it, pull it out, wash it as quickly as you can then back it in to dry. The warm vehicle will keep the wash water from freezing.

Oh and wear gloves!

Go to the "Good Clean Fun" forum and find the number of total replies to this thread. When you find that number, move your mouse over it, but don't click. A box will pop up telling you how many times you've posted on this particular thread. That's the number she wants.Thx! got it now.

Don't ruin this for me, I will be heartbroken.

Got 4 hours and 18 minutes by coming back later and posting again while you all were sleeping . Got just 18 minutes the time before . Only 32 posts since last evening . slowing down again .
Thanks Jim and Susan for reporting your total . Now its just Scott. If I could do it for him I would but each person can only do it for themselves . And Susan , I got lost in what Gina was saying , too. Glad you got it . Just hovering over the replies total to this thread and your total will pop up . I think that is rather neat .

After 31 years of listening to a die hard Vikings fan, I think I can put up with someone droning on endlessly about the Cubs.

Joe Hittle

Obviously you're not a sports historian. See, the Vikes have won more than a few championships in the past 31 years.... The Cubs????

Haven't won one in over 100. We not only tell stories of dismal failure, we whine while we're doing it. It's positively merciless. Lessee, I could start with Tinkers to Evers to Chance, but that would be a high note, even though it's also a hundred years old. Or, I could posit that Steve Bartman's selfless act during the 2003 playoffs was really the best thing that ever happened to the franchise.

I might even be able to drag out pictures of Ron Santo and his pizza/spaghetti shop from the 1960's. Or, how he got stuck in the mud on a rainy day attempting to slide into second base.

See, the problem with your position is that you're assuming that I'll be talking about what I think are good things to report. There simply are NO good things to report about the Cubs.

Have fun listening :-)

I figured this out a while back myself. We have this nice, cozy group where we can talk about all sorts of utterly facinating things. Not me, I grew up in a family of White Sox fans, all of whom thought that losing to the Dodgers in 1959 somehow made them a dynasty.

So, I argue from the minority position, and with the same vociferousness.

And, just to clarify, I DON'T expect to win this (after all, when have the Cubs ever won anything) but like all other Cub's fans, I just show up no matter where you all gather.

And, then, I rethought this whole exercise:

y'know, the question which started all of this was "Who will be the last person to ADD [emphasis mine] to this thread?"

That opens up a whole set of philosophical considerations which I don't think have been handled yet at all.

We must:

a. define person
b. define add
c. define last, and
d. come to an understanding of the intrinsic value that any particular post contributed to the betterment of mankind to determine whether or not any real "addition" ever occured.

you know, sort of like asking "HUH?" to any/all of my posts

But, you can see that I'm putting MUCH thought into all of this!

Either that, or I'm really good at compiling one-liners.

Well, that's a side benefit.

Did somebody say CUBS!!

This little feller is serial number #518, it was one of twenty five test units built in the fall of 1960. This tractor is pictured here at Pineland Plantation in Albany, Georgia. This is the very place where this tractor was used in testing back in 1960.

According to MapQuest, this picture was taken 1230 miles from my house. I think that trailering this tractor over 1200 miles, just to get a picture of it here, qualifies me as a Cub fan.

So what is this baseball?

No, see, you misunderstand: There are a great and vast number of sports fans who maintain that the Cubs haven't played baseball for more than 100 years now. I'm beginning to suspect that "they" are right.

Which is why my motif should work. No one wants to talk about the Cubs, or, at least be seen as wanting to talk about the Cubs. So, I have the perfect situation here. I WILL get replies. They probably won't be about baseball or the Cubs, but I WILL get responses.

And, gauging by the quality of posts so far, highly inciteful ones (oh wait, maybe that was supposed to be "insightful"... nah, probably not)

Hey, you're a Texan... buck up! :-)

And, gauging by the quality of posts so far, highly inciteful ones (oh wait, maybe that was supposed to be "insightful"... nah, probably not)

Hey, you're a Texan... buck up! :-)

Oh, so that is what your logic is...I've been confused over that ever since you posted that a few days ago. Are you normally this confusing???

Source of Internet Pixel Shortage Found

Researchers at the world renowned Upper Moose Internet Crisis Center have found the source of a recent drop in Internet pixel availability that has concerned Internet users worldwide. The drop in pixel availability began about two months ago and has continued since. It is reported Internet providers like Verizon and Comcast have in some cases resorted to rationing certain font colors and that even reserves of the venerable black pixels have been dangerously low at times. “We’ve been concerned about the capacity of Internet providers to keep up in the face of depleted pixel supplies of all colors,” commented chief researcher Phineas Breezeley, head of research at Upper Moose, “the recent drop in pixel availability has increased our concern that the internet is more fragile than some have thought.”

One result of the pixel shortage has been the gradual disappearance of Internet articles about the precious and endangered spotted owl and the little snail darter fish. Breezeley also believes that there’s a link between the pixel crisis and climate change. “It is yet to be proven, but many of us think there’s a correlation here,” he said.

The source of the pixel shortage was found as Breezeley and his research team of crack scientists researched the flow of Internet traffic from Australia to Denmark, from London to Brazil, from east Texas to west Texas.

“The source of the problem,” Breezeley said, “is a thread on a website called ‘NazNet.com.’ A group of users are competing to see who will be the last to post to a particular thread.” In the thread, each user tries to post something that will be the final thing said in the thread. As the hundreds of posts are done, pixels are used at an alarming rate and reserves are threatened.

Breezeley says that the only hope for the Internet is for the competition to end immediately. “Just a person trying to get one more post in by saying something like ‘ME’ or ‘thanks’ will likely push our fragile Internet past the tipping point. The NazNet users must cease this thread immediately,” he warned.

He adds, “Do it for the sake of the children.”

Maybe if Breezeley abridged his reports, there would be some pixels left for the rest of us.

Realized that one thing this forum is now doing is something that takes us backwards. Used to be that, once a checked-off post has been quoted, it does not appear in future posts. Now, I'm having to delete any post, it seems, that I've ever quoted [just deleted Susan's snowman post I already quoted earlier, & now see Jim's "purple pixel" post below that was also quoted earlier, when we thanked him for checking on those purple pixels. As we move down the page, we see Marg's already quoted is here, too. And even Charlotte's admirably alliterative post previous quoted is here, too. And Joe's 1st 100-yr-Cubs post already quoted remains. Hmmmmm ....

Oops! This isn't the first one ... it's the one I meant to quote this time around ... re "inciteful -vs- insightful" ... yes, some of his posts may "incite" folks to respond, while others can be downright "insightful." ;)

Now, after all this "splaining," what was I going to say in this post? Oh, well ... won't worry about it ... there'll be other posts in which we can say whatever it was we were going to say here in this post. LOL ;) [giving me an excuse to post again ;)]

Sure is interesting seeing who has posted how many times . Especially that nameless one with the connections in Upper Moose , Ontario . I think I'd have to vote him one of the most ingenious posters part of the time anyway .

Then Big Moose Centre for Climate Change Research
Now Upper Moose , Ontario .

How did we go from 11:11 all the way to 5:57 without anyone posting in between? Was everyone out Christmas shopping? I tell you, this thread is seriously falling apart (which, from the perspective of a recovered postaholic is a good thing). Sure there is enthusiasm around a milestone (oh, and congratulations, Susan), but there are also some serious lags going on.

I suggest we all take a reprieve over Christmas. Do you think we can do it? Instead of posting to be last, how about we collectively put our keyboards down and sing "Silent Night" together and then we can resume the madness the following day. How about it? How about a day of "Peace on NazNet Earth"?

Good idea. I may have to change strategies here. Maybe even join Scott, and assume an attitude of non-competitiveness.

Of course, IF I do that, I'll have to make an announcement of my intentions, just to be fair to all of you. Of course, we could all post our acceptances of your terms to Marsha's post "Not many people know this" in the theology forum.

This song takes places on St Stephen's Day, which is today. Also, Wenceslas in Bohemian is Vaclav, which is my grandfather Unger's name and my greatgrandfather Havlen's name.

Cold here and sunny but we are far enough west that we are missing that storm up the east coast . Tomorrow is to be a carbon copy of today .

We didn't get much snow either. Only a few flakes.

8 or 9 inches here so far, I'm guessing we'll get another 6 to 8 overnight. Looks like this storm will actually deliver enough snow to start the riding season. So were leaving at dinner time tomorrow, hopefully be in Florida on Tuesday night, then back here again by next Monday. By then the trails should be marked and groomed!

Not to dash anyone's hopes her on this thread, but I should still be able to post by phone, although I haven't figured out how to format text with the phone yet.

Well, if you can't format it, then why bother posting at all? It might be misunderstood. Maybe it's best if you just take a break from this thread for a while. Just let it slip from your mind. In fact, we should all do that.

Yes, you do have a point there. Maybe it is time to rest?

I DID get a Cubs "throw" from my daughter-in-law for Christmas!!

Now I can settle in and stay nice and comfy cozy as I speak of all things Wrigleyesque.

It's a WONDERFUL life. (someone should shoot a movie with that as the main theme, really, someone should)

Trying to watch the national news and every 10 minutes they devote 5 minutes to talking about the weather in the northeast. It feels like I'm watching a local channel. (Of course, the news media is all based in that area.)

Woah! Only 7 posts in twelve hours. Could it be that my persuasive skills are working and people are slowly forgetting about this thread and moving on to other things? Rhetorical question. Anyway, for those of you who were persuaded, it does no good if you make one last post after me.

Oh, I'm sure you have figured this out to perfection! People are so no-committal nowadays, and it's just like them to forget what their proper focus should be.

And, I'm also sure that there's not a whole lot of rhetoric in that answer, either ;-)

I'm trying to slow down. One more week off work and I need to get things done now that Christmas is over.

I can tell you one thing. For me this non stop news about a snow storm is incredibly annoying. One would think that it hasn't snowed here before, and to think all of this hoopla over a 18" nighttime storm! Good grief!

Got up this morning early, shoveled off the end of the driveway. Went to Dunkin Donuts (which was open), went to the Post Office (which was open), went to the jobsite and cleaned off the snow from the drive, went to the bank to cash a check (and they were also open), came home blew off the driveway and a path for the dog in the backyard. Just got out of the shower, we still have an hour or so to finish packing and we are driving to Florida.

Maybe we should have gone out last night and stocked up on milk, bread and batteries!

Oh, and I almost forgot, my Mom called twice yesterday and twice this morning to make sure that we were all right. Being in the middle of the biggest snowstorm in history and all, according to the media.

I hope that I don't come across as somewhat jaded against the media, I really love those guys and gals who keep us informed about so much of what they don't know about!
