We've begun.

Syracuse is 1-0. So far so good.

I have no predictions except that I will root for Syracuse.

One thing: it'll take a great season, but it is conceivable and possible that Coach K overtakes Bob Knight in most coaching wins this year.

I have a feeling Syracuse is out for a good year. Possibly a top 3 seed. Kentucky will probably put on a stronger showing than most expect.

And Coach K only needs to throw 3 or 4 chairs across the floor in a game and he could overtake Bobby on that record too!
(Sorry, I was a University of Iowa grad student in the 1970's and learned to greatly dislike Bobby Knight and Indiana for obvious reasons.)

Syracuse 3-0, against such great foes as Canisius and Detroit. Yeah, those are statement victories...

I am wondering why this thread has the clarification of US in the title. Is there a Spanish NCAA or perhaps the Chinese NCAA is finally up and running?

That Detroit score was a little close, though.

Buckeyes beat Florida by 20 last night after a tight first half. I'm hoping we have a great year and make it to the Final Four.

Jim Boeheim is right - this team is over-rated and should not be ranked at the moment (of course, we all know that early season ranking is silly). Thanks to ESPN3 (oh my goodness, what a wonderful thing - I hope they continue to carry this many games), I've watched much of the first three games. This Orange team has a lot of potential, but it's only that at the moment. Fab Melo has been anything but fab (though another rookie, Baye Moussa Keita, has been a pleasant surprise at the Center position). They have little to no mid-range game (pretty much just Scoop Jardine). But they could be an incredible inside-outside force. They have half a dozen guys who could shoot the 3 well and enough big guys to dominate the very short paint on the boards and posting up. It looks like they will play two big guys at all times just like last year. If Melo can live up to anything, it'll be good.

But last night was abysmal. They shot horribly. I'm not even sure how they ended up with 31% from the field (in one stretch, they were 1-21!).

Actually, at least one Canadian school now belongs to the NCAA. But your point is well taken!

Well...I suppose it's just another effort to decentralize Americentrism. Someone could post something about a cricket, rugby, or futbol league and I would have no clue which area of the world it's in.

I kid, I kid. I just thought it was funny and redundant. Kind of like starting a thread about the UEFA basketball tournament and then writing (Europe)

I was curious about that myself. Then I found this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Philippines). Dunno if that's the reason Jeremy clarified, but it's a reason

Interesting. Why does the NCAA (U.S.) tolerate this? Is the NCAA (U.S.) not able to sue them for using the same name because they are in another country? I know McDonald's seems to go after just about anyone who use "Mc" in their name or products. But maybe if you are in the Philippines you could open a restaurant with golden arches and call it McDonalds? I'm not a lawyer, but somehow I doubt that.

My guess is that the NCAA is not an international corporation. NCAA as an acronym is fair use- "National Collegiate Athletic Association"? Seems like a pretty vague phrase, and since the Philippines one is referring to a different nation, it's not actually the same thing... or maybe the US NCAA just aren't jerks.

Well Syracuse has gotten better and better by the game. But so has much of the rest of the Big East. Should be a fierce conference season in the Big East.

...the ACC however, is another story. I really hate to say it, but I think it is quite possible that Duke enters the tournament undefeated. Could we see an undefeated national championship this year?

(And as I said earlier, with such an easy schedule, it's more and more likely that Coach K surpasses Bob Knight this year.)

Syracuse was impressive last night.

As for Duke; I've seen two entire games of theirs this year, including the Michigan State contest. Duke really seems too complete to lose this year. Of course, once you say that it will happen, but they've amassed such a diverse group of talented, experienced, smart players, they're going to be hard to beat.

The Michigan State game was an off game for Duke; Singler was in foul trouble. Michigan State was playing well. Duke just kept playing consistent defense and patient offense and rolled over them.

I'm generally a Duke hater, but this one of the more complete college teams that's come along in a while.

Well, guess I was wrong. Duke lost last night. Hubie Brown's son...er, Kyle Singler...had a pretty nifty assist from his back. But Coach K could still have no problem overtaking Knight.

As for Syracuse, they have gradually gotten better and better, but I still don't see them as a title contender quite yet. It's probably just my perspective in seeing a lack of a true leader on the team. They are very deep and have many players who can take over a game, but that championship leader seems to be missing. Rick Jackson is a force though.

Will OSU be the consensus #1 now, or will the voters be much more divided?

The Oregon Ducks opened up a 22 Million dollar basketball facility today. Thanks to Nike's Phil Knight. Too bad the Ducks are ranked last in the PAC 10. They probably rank 100th or something, but hey, the arena is among the best. I guess if you are going to lose you might as well do it in class!

Well then San Diego State is my Dark Horse! I am forced to hear about them on a daily basis, as one of our bartenders goes to most games and one of my fellow waiters attends the school and I work... I dunno... 3 miles from Viejas Arena!

Might as well cheer for them!

OOPs won't be #1 for long - starting to look like the NCAA bowl series football rankings - how quick can you give up your #1 position.
