My cousin often sends me forwards that have attachments inside attachments inside attachments. Do I need to scan each one before I open it or is scanning the first one good enough? Please don't answer unless you know for sure.

Thanks, Joel

I don't open attachments from anyone that has attachments within other attachments. How often is the forward really worth seeing?

As far as your question goes it depends on your antivirus software. I use McAfee and have it set to scan on access. That way anything gets scanned before I access it. The only virus I've had in several years is when my son was baited into visiting a rouge web site that installed unwanted code on our computer.

This cousin is very special to me or I wouldn't bother to open them. In fact I have blocked people for sending less stuff than her. I think Norton antivirus is automatic too. I may be overly careful but I scan everything no matter how safe I think it is. When I open her forwards, I save each layer and scan it. I just wonder if I need to do that.

I have never had a virus through my email that Norton didn't catch and delete instantly with no damage. (I think I have had a total of 2) I was shopping on line once and I couldn't get a site to open with Mozilla. There are a few sites that won't work with Mozilla. So I opened it with IE and got a virus. Norton caught it instantly so no damage was done but I had to go to the Norton web site and go through several steps to get rid of that one.
