Hailed as the definitive study of Christianity's founding villain, this book takes the precious little documented evidence of Pilate's life and fills in the gaps with rigorous research and historical perspective.

The life of Pilate - as depicted here - sheds much light on the life of Christ as well. Wroe does an excellent job of illustrating the time in which Jesus lived and fleshes out the Gospel accounts of His interaction with Pilate using deductive and inductive reasoning along with the opinions of canonical scholars through the centuries.

The writing is fluid, accessible and engaging - the research, exhaustive. This book has a depth of nuance and historical minutiae that make it a welcome addition to any Christian library.

Unlike other books on Pilate, the author here does not write an apology for the Prefect. Instead, she gathers all the available evidence, compares it with liturgical truths and allows the reader to mull Pilate's motives, methods and meanings.
