For the first time in the history of the NazNet Community, 1/3 of the registered members are online at the same time!!! It is now 9:33 a.m. pdt on October 26 and 52 members and guests are on line (Hans counts twice because he is signed on in two different modes). Still, I am impressed that the speed of the forum seems "normal" with that many on line at the same time.

I hate to disappoint you, Dave, but it was 20 registered users and 31 guests when I looked a minute ago. Still, we seem to be running well again. And I logged out my alter ego :)

I should have said "a number of people equal to 1/3 of our registered members" were on line. It turned out that 64 computers were on line at the peak of the usage. I was one of them and could not tell that the speed of the board slowed at all. That speaks well for the bandwidth provided to us by our ISP.
I continue to be surprised at how many "guests" visit NazNet. I realize that some of the "Guests" are members who have not signed in, but I am still surprised. Most of the time there are more guests than members reading.

I just noticed that we hit another record number of users online today -- 69 this afternoon. I never realized that we had so many lurkers reading the posts.

Yes. We set a new record yesterday about the same time, then we broke it again today. We are having a lot of "guests." I wonder if there is a way with this software to change "guest" to "lurker?"
This software keeps track of the total number of users (both members and guests) that sign on each day. We have been having approximatley 90 per day this week.

Dave, I think we all are dealing with the change! Maybe it will be sooner to close out the other side of this board?

Just to be fair, I realized today that when I changed the amount of time people have to compose a post from 15 minutes to an hour, it also changed how long people are considered on line.
The number of people named at the bottom of the forum is how many have been, or now are, on line for the last hour. That, instead of, how many are viewing the forums right this minute.

Scott, What happens when someone goes off and leaves their computer signed in to NazNet? I assume that it continues to show them as online.
Last night at 10 p.m. Pacific Coast Time there were several people from the East Coast logged on. I suspect they went to bed without logging off. Is that a reasonable assumption?

Not quite. If you walk away from your computer and don't do anything for an hour I think it quits showing you as logged on.
However, the Shoutbox may be changing that -- creating activity even if you aren't at the keyboard.
The only test I can think of is for someone to tell us ahead of time that they are going to leave their computer on the page for more than an hour. Then we could look to see if they were still showing as logged on.
