Ok this is from Oklahoma's State Capitol.

It was a lot of fun there.
I met up with a fellow Canadian now working in the State Capitol. Kind of nice having someone say - Do you know where Kingston is?
Yes - it is about 3 hours from my home!!!

So after we laughed about this, Judy & I went and had fun taking pics.

What suprises me about these pics - they were taken and much better with my old Epson 3.2 camera and not the new one.

THe last pic is a little hall with a balconey. It wass so cool to look at, especially when you realised there was a mirror part way down.

Hope you like them. :p

A few more!!

They have the most amazing canvas' on the wall.

Also this way I was able to take alot of my pics, in the circled off section of the Capitol Floor. Interesting talking to people from this position.

I don't think I could get away with this in Canada!

Judy is the one who knows about it.

I thought this looks great here in the hall!

Judy called the Maiden - Oklahoma's maiden. There are a few others here that know the answer. I though she looked great.

I did a report on Oklahoma in the 5th grade; so I'm an authority :). I seem to remember that they were kind of bragging about having the only state capitol building without a dome. Has that been built in the last 20 (OK, 38) years? Maybe the building I'm thinking of is the flat-roofed one in your 4th post.

That is the Oklahoma Historica Society.

If I enlarge the front of the building here - I see the words.

Since your question hasn't been answered yet, I will take the liberty of responding. The dome has been added in the last 5 years and the funding was from a compilation of monies from several sources - both public and private. The statue atop the dome is an American Indian and was carved/cast by an Oklahoma state senator who is, also, a Native American and a sculptor. His family and friends donated all costs associated with the statue. Charlene, now you are really an expert!

Lenten blessings,

Thanks, Edith. My mother and her parents were from Anadarko. That's why I chose OK for my report. Also my teacher was from there, and very proud of it. My grandma gave me a lot of back issues of Oklahoma Today magazine (I think that's what it was called) with some great pictures. My grandpa was 1/4 Choctaw.

I believe that Hawaii is the only state with a capitol building without a dome.

Yes, you're right. Oklahoma must have been one of 2 that didn't have domes back then. I promise you, Hawaii was a state when I was in 5th grade. :basic01

I knew there was an age joke there, but resisted the temptation.

That's my good deed for the day.

And I appreciate it.

I missed seeing your brother-in-law. He was heading up district meetings held at our church every few months, but they cancelled the last one and won't be having any more. I'll probably see him at DA. I may skip out this year and go on vacation that week. :fav18

It would be an interesting study, to photograph all our capitals and learn the history of each one.
I am most familiar with Albany, NY, near my hometown. I have seen a few others, but dont know so many facts about them. There are a lot of very beautiful capitals and very intricate archetexture.

I've visited 3 state capitol buildings. I've been to California's twice. Once for my 6th grade trip (we briefly saw Governor Reagan), and again just a few years ago when Gray Davis was in his last months of office. I've also toured the captiols in Idaho and Wisconsin. I have yet to visit the capitol building in Indianapolis, though I've been to the city many times.

state capitols are beautiful buildings, aren't they? i've only visited 2 -- wisconsin and minnesota... but have seen many more from interstate highways that pass near them. ;)

jeffrey was able to visit the capitol building in lansing last fall...i wanted to chaperone that field trip but was unable to. lansing is only 2 hours away - we need to take a family day trip up there someday to visit.

so... who is gonna tell me the story of the lady on the bench sculpture and the story of the oklahoma maiden?

If you ever want to go to Lansing sometime when Brian isn't available, I'd love to go with you. I know my way around Lansing reasonably well and love to go there. The Michigan Historical Museum is also really cool to visit!
