I posted this last night after receiving the College Church newsletter on email. Then Betty talked me into taking it off. She did not want me to be the one to "spill the beans" in the OKC area, not knowing if OKC First knew about the interview. If it was sent out in the newsletter, how could they not know?

Did you happen to read the rest of the page? Olathe is one of the many Nazarene churches offering Holy Communion and Imposition of the Ashes at this beginning of the Lenten Season. Even the Free Methodist churches in OKC offered it today, as well as several area hospitals and Bethany First Church. OKC First always displays a VERY LARGE wooden cross on their front lawn (small hill) with a royal purple cloth draped from it during the Lenten Season. It serves as a reminder to the thousands of cars passing daily on a busy expressway. It does seem that more and more evangelical churches are returning to ancient-future worship.

From the Olathe College Church web site:

Ash Wednesday
This Wednesday, March 1
You are invited to participate in one of the following Ash Wednesday services:
Daytime Service: 6:45 - 7:45 a.m. in Garrett Chapel or

Evening Services: (30 minutes in Uphaus Hall) beginning at 6:15 p.m., 7:00 p.m., 7:40 p.m., and 8:20 p.m.

The Daytime Service includes: personal Scripture reading, reflection, prayer, applying of ashes and Holy Communion.

Evening Services include: corporate singing, Scripture reading, prayer, applying of ashes and Holy Communion. As you worship, voluntarily choose something of personal importance to sacrifice through the 40 days of Lent in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice for you.

One of the most meaningful things I have experienced was the applying of ashes. This was at a Methodist church though. But it was very meaningful and awe inspiring.

Aww, sounds like the emergent style of worship.

The way this newsletter is worded it sounds as if a decision has been made and Dr. Green is definitely coming as senior pastor. BUT it does not say the congregation has extended him a call by a 2/3 ballot vote. I have heard they are to vote on him this next Sunday.

If I received that newsletter I would be telling everyone that Dr. Green IS our new pastor. The newsletter says that the board extended him an invitation to be their Senior Pastor and he accepted the invitation.

I have never heard it stated quite that way before.

Don't they still have to vote on him?

This must be the new way that ones are verbalizing the impending vote. One has to be invited to be Senior Pastor - and that invitation must be accepted BEFORE the vote can occur. The key word is board. The board has issued the invitiation - Step one. The church vote will be the church issuing an invitation - Step two.

It is not confirmed at this time that Steve Green will be the new pastor.

Yes, one thing I find so cool as a Nazarene observing Ash Wednesday in such a traditional, orthodox manner (at OKC First) ... is that my Catholic friends hardly know what to think. This year I was at a noon professional meeting on that Wednesday and saw a Catholic acquaintances' ashes on her forehead. I said to her, "I see your ashes. I will get mine this evening." It's fun to be part of something bigger than we are!
