I learned a new word today -- "petaflop." I know that a "flop" is an experiment that has failed. Why should I trust a computer that is described as a "Petaflop Machine?" The new computer at the University of Iowa is supposed to be the first computer to prosess a thousand trillion floating point operations per second, a petaflop.

Along the same lines in regard to storage sizes:
I remember in years past when you spoke to the iT guys about 1 gig drives and using terms like surfing the web many looked on us as if we spoke a foreign language. Now many of those terms are well known and used by many. (common place)
I wonder what the common size drive will be 20 years from now? Assuming they still use HD's.

It's all a little hard to get your head around, but it seems to be working. My only problem is being reminded of all the money I spent on technology that become obsolete quickly...like the $7,500 I spent in 1984 for a 40MB hard drive for my law firm. I just got a 2GB stick the other day for $29. I could sure use that $7,500!

Thats true, but you can use that to your advantage. Lets say you want to purchase Apple products and you see the relative high costs that Apple charges for its products. You can then reason that current Apple products are a lot less then the amount you spent on past PC products. Purchase Justified!:smilies1722:
