My husband and I had a chance to go see this movie this week and really enjoyed it. The actress who played " Maddie" was very good along with Jeff Bridges who played "Rooster" and Matt Damon who played the Texas Ranger. At times I kept comparing the movie to the first True Grit with John Wayne in it. But all in all it kept my attention and was exciting at times and funny. The dialect was very interesting and was purposely imitated from the time period. The background music was beautiful. "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" was played on and off through it with an Irish singer (sorry can't remember her name) belting it out at the very end. I wish they made more movies like this. I especially loved to hear Rooster's conversations.

Other information: Steve Spielberg produced this movie with the Coen brothers directing it.

I finished reading the book a few days before I saw the movie, and I still liked the movie. That never happens to me, usually when I read the book first the movie is a letdown.

My 15 year old went with some of his friends to see this movie over his Christmas break, I then had him watch the original with me. He liked the new version a little better but said John Wayne was much better than Jeff Bridges. Well I could have told him that and I haven't even seen the new version! :)
