I preached on this last week (Jan 9), and used it as a prequel to a series on the Sermon on the Mount.
I worked with the Gospel text, and in many ways, used it to set the stage for what was to come.
I'm working with the Sermon on the Mount in terms of answering this question each week: "What does it mean for us to live into our calling as subjects of the Kingdom of God."
In particular, in the Matthew passage, I pointed out that Jesus was announcing the Kingdom of God... and announcing it to quite a hodge-podge of people. That theme was continued yesterday when I talked about the Kingdom of God coming to "the least of these."

I am preaching from the gospel passage, continuing a series on relationships in the kingdom of God. This week's message focuses on the message Jesus brings of the kingdom, and those he calls to be his partners in its proclamation.

Coming a bit late to the discussion I suppose, but that is better than never.
Preaching on expectations and the habits they form. Focusing primarily on Matthew's use of Isaiah and the fulfillment of Jesus to the broken expectations of the Southern Nation in regards to Hezekiah. Jesus inaugarates the "invasion" of his kingdom in the same area hit hardest by the Assyrian invasion of Isaiah's time.
Tying this into our present day, and how our expectations of what the church is and does shapes our involvement in it. I think conclusions are a weak point though in my preaching. We'll see.
First time preaching at Shepherd also. Definitely adds to the fun.
