What do American friends feel their national team can acheive at the World Cup?

Pretty convinced we will show up. First game against a lesser side will allow us to tune up for the big matches.

We have England, Slovenia, and Algeria in that order. We need at least a Draw, Win, Draw (with Slovenia beating Algeria) to move on. I think we are poised well for advancement. A lot depends on which US side shows up. Will it be the team that bested Spain or the evil twin that seems to show up at inopportune times?

We do have a World Cup thread already - Shea can merge them.

Despite a rash of injuries, no backup plan on the back line and really no world class scorers, I do think we can move on. I just hope we look respectable against England - all of their top players seem to be rounding into great form right now.
