We have a nest of young birds, and obviously the parents fly off and on to feed the youngsters. Here's one leaving, though for some reason she's taking something with her.

We have a nest of young birds, and obviously the parents fly off and on to feed the youngsters. Here's one leaving, though for some reason she's taking something with her.

A friend just told me that this is probably baby dirt, and she tries to keep the nest clean that way.

Its fascinating how birds and other animals care for their young and their " homes " . Thanks for sharing , Hans . Very interesting .

This morning, I saw the youngsters leave the nest. So we're once again "empty nesters"! Btw, this bird is called the "Great Tit" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Tit)

Hans , were the babies very noisy ? I always imagine baby birds squawking a lot if they aren't constantly fed .

Yeah, they got pretty noisy. But nothing really bad.
