I recently purchased a Canon Power Shot SD 1200 IS. Today I decided to try out the “Movie” option. Here are the results.

Even thought this movie runs for less then two minutes, the two Canon video files totaled a little over 180 Megs. After editing in Microsoft Movie Maker the files were reduced to 12 Megs. A fair amount of detail was lost during the compression.

I am looking for a more capable and “user friendly” video editor that will run on a Windows XP platform. Any suggestions?

I am pretty convinced the abobe premier elements is hard to beat. There are a host of other options, but elements stands out.

Movie: Standard Definition: 640 x 480 (30 fps)

I wonder with a starting point of 640x480 if additional software will produce the needed clarity you seek. You might be better served by seeking a low end HD pocket camcorder.

While Premiere is very good (never used Elements) it is not too very intuitive. I have a friend that uses Sony Vegas, but for around the same price Avid offers Liquid and I have seen some HD stuff another friend has made.

It is just too bad Final Cut is not available for the windows platform.

I have been reading a lot about indie film makers who are using Cannon and Nikon HD DSLRs for HD video for a whole lot less money than buying comparable video cameras.

Movie Maker and i-Movie are similar and do not offer enugh flexibility or features
