This morning some of the A/V folks were getting ready for Sunday services and the bulb failed on our video projector. We have been having discussions on how we can have church without video!

I mean, has anyone ever actually tried it? Using hymnals and such?

How will I preach without PowerPoint? Will I be able to keep people's attention? Maybe I should go find the overhead projector and make up some transparencies?

Someone suggested I draw up some posters to use.

How did they get by in the old days?

--

Well, I guess we will give it a try -- but who knows how it will go?

--

Only one serious word here -- for all you who will say, "You should have a spare" -- we purposely opted out of that. The bulb costs around $400 -- it doesn't seem wise to spend $400 on a spare when the projector could die or when the cost of projectors might drop to the point that it would make more sense to just buy a new one.

You could use a flannel graph for your sermon!

Just remember to turn and face the congregation after you put the next character up on the board.

"Oooooohhhh-- flannelgraph!"

One of my favorite VeggieTales quotes -- from "King George and the Rubber Ducky"

Just print out all your PowerPoint slides in handout form, Scott. I think I have more experience with PowerPoint presentations in that form than with a projector.

People will appreciate all the space they have to take notes.

Our projector didn't work last week. It wasn't easy! I don't use sermon notes, because the powerpoint slides are my notes, so I actually had to use my memory. That was scary....

Thanks for all the good advice.

I have settled on a power point replacement for this Sunday.

It is.................

...............finger puppets!

We may never go back to power point again!

Obviously you need to run out and purchase a mammoth gas plasma flat panel TV, then you won't have to worry about those primitive bulbs anymore.

Tell the congregation you're doing things "old school." :basic03

What about just having a time of testimonies and prayer?

Seeing as we have just last month begun using a projector and a real screen instead of an overhead with a shower curtain, I would hardly call it "old days" or "old school". Count your blessings. ;)
