Anybody actually holding it at sunrise?
Anybody else doing it outdoors?
We will be meeting in a park down on the Lake Michigan shorelines where we will have an awesome view of the sun rising up over the lake if it isn't cloud covered. Here in Kenosha, sunrise is scheduled for 6:09 A.M. We'll begin at 6:00 A.M. Very simple, sing a song or two acapella, pray, a short devotional message, maybe another song...

We're meeting indoors and have scheduled sunrise to be at 7am. ( ;) )
The teens provide breakfast afterwards. (pancakes made at the tables & eggbake)
Easter egg hunt for the kids - I hope this year we get to fly a kite (a guyanese custom)
Then Sunday School at 9:45

When I've been at church that actually owned a facility where we could do breakfast we would time our Sunrise Service like you're doing to go to breakfast then to Sunday School.

Service begins at 5:45 at "Two Lights Point" (a piece of rocky Maine coast facing East). We'll be together with 4-5 Methodist churches who come join us. We'll have scripture, singing, and a message (which I'm giving this year). The sun actually rises at 5:56, and we'll wrap the service up by 6:15.
At 6:30, we'll have breakfast at the church (cooked by the General Store down the street). Then people will go home and get ready for church--which is at 10:00 this week.

This sunrise over Lake Michigan reminded me of a friend who awihle back told me of a couple of her friends who had to laugh at themselves. You see, they decided it would be so cool to drive over to Holland to see the sun rise over Lake Michigan. Rather difficult to do when one is in Michigan. ;)
They sat there for awhile and suddenly realized, after wondering why it wasn't starting to get brighter over the lake yet, that there was something getting rather bright ... in their rear view mirrors! Good one, huh?
So, I emailed her a Michigan map I turned up-side-down that would maybe help them watch the sunrise from Holland, over the lake, since it was then on the right/east side of the map. :basic05

My pastor has been asked to handle the local outdoor "sunrise" service at The Old Stone Church (photo attached) in Beaverton, another town about 15 miles away from Pefferlaw. He/we will also be back in Pefferlaw for our Easter service and cantata to begin at 10 a.m.
The "sunrise" service in Beaverton is to begin at 7 a.m., about 25 minutes after the sun is scheduled to rise here on Sunday. I just sent my pastor an email to point this out to him. Who knows, maybe the service time will now be moved up a half-hour ... maybe not.
;)
We're on our own for breakfast ... there's a McDonalds near the Old Stone Church in Beaverton, so we may be having Egg McMuffins.
I won't eat too many, though, since I will be conducting the cantata! Gotta be able to wave my baton, dontchaknow!

I lived in both Oscoda and Alpena. Both places bragged about being on the "Sunrise Side!" Of course, that wasn't Lake Michigan but it was still a "great lake."

We participate in our community sunrise service. This year it will be on the grounds of the Lutheran church and it will be outside.
Following the service, some of us are going out to a restaurant that has the best breakfast burritos I have ever tasted.

Recorded in the records of The Old Stone Church cemetery --
McDermid, Alex, died 26 May 1856, age 6 mos, child of Arch'd & Margaret McDermid
McDermid, Jannel, died 13 May 1861, age 1 day, child of Arch'd & Margaret McDermid
McDermid, Charles, died Dec 1851, age 1 day, child of Arch'd & Margaret McDermid
McDermid, Arch, died 22 July 1880, age 57, native of Islay; spouse of Margaret Campbell
McDermid, nee Campbell, Margaret, died 12 May 1894, age 68, native of Sterlingshire; spouse of Arch.
McDermid, Donald, died 6 Mar 1880, age 27, son of Arch & Margaret McDermaid
Looks like Donald was the only child who lived for awhile, but only to age 27, and also pre-deceasing both mom (Margaret) and dad (Arch'd).

The earliest recorded death at this cemetery was:
McTaggart, Donald, died 16 Jan 1844, age 71, native of Islay; spouse of Jane
McTaggart, Jane, died 14 Aug 1886, age 67, native of Islay, spouse of Donald
Donald and Jane had three children ... the following is the recorded information for their 3 children, which I found (mathematically) interesting ... what do all ya'll think??
McTaggart, Mary, died 26 Feb 1867, age 11, native of Islay; child of Donald & Jane
McTaggart, Duncan, died 24 May 1877, age 30, native of Islay; child of Donald & Jane
McTaggart, Malcolm, died 29 Apr 1880, age 29, native of Islay; child of Donald & Jane

Lori just told me that our church is even more powerful than I thought - we actually were able to delay sunrise until 7:30am. ;) It was a unamimous board decision.
The breakfast is going to require the teens (that includes me) to be at the church on Saturday to prep everything. Then we have probably 6 or 7 large electric skillets distributed around. Somehow the parents of teens end up having to do the cleanup while the teens conduct the egg hunt.

No. There will be an Easter breakfast and we're having night services at 7:30 pm each night from Monday to Saturday. No sunrise service.

Yes....We are having at Beautiful David Brink Park - for 7 years I have been going to Kirkland Naz this is where it is at - rain or shine. This year....well, our new pastor announced last Sunday...if there is rain, it is moved to the church. I am a little sad about this - hopefully it will be overcast w/out rain or sunny. We do look across Lake Washington to Seattle....most of the time it drizzles. Maybe I will get he and his lovely wife a matching set of umbrella's for Easter (?) .......

Oh, man! Without even smelling them, just reading this makes me sooo hungry! Breakfast burritos are definitely a good thing when made well. Eat one for me, OK? Naw, nevermind ... wouldn't want to be responsible for ruining one's diet. ;) [actually, probably your non-diet, right?] :p

 hmmmmmmmmmm ...
Since Jane would have been just 25 when Donald was 71, according to the ages/death dates, I'm wondering if there were perhaps two Donalds ... and Jane was married to Jr (& he for some reason wasn't buried w/the rest of them ... died somewhere is some war, & not found, maybe? deserted, tho' divorce wasn't so common back then?).
This especially makes me wonder, since the one child, Mary, aged 11 in 67, would've been born about 1856, 12 years after Donald died. Also, Malcolm appears to have been born about 7 years (51) after Donald died. So, this makes me wonder about two Donalds, but one just not buried with the rest?? Wouldn't be the first time people with the same name married two others with the same names, as well, causing some confusion of facts.
Jane being born in about 1819, her children would've been born when she was 25 (Duncan), 32 (Malcolm), and 37 (Mary).
'Guess either there was another Donald, or -- if it was this first Donald (46 years older than Jane! no thanks!!) -- Jane got remarried & it wasn't considered (namewise) when she was buried with her "first family," or Jane had two kids after her husband died, his dying when she was rather young yet ... 25. Hmmmmmmmmm ... looks like you might have run across what would've been called in those days a "red letter" lady, Gord ... but, then, would such a one have been buried in a church's cemetery? (or were there no other non-church cemeteries back "when"?). It is a curious situation, huh?

We are having a Sunrise Service again this year. It will be held at 6:30 am. Last year with Easter being so early, it was very cold outside at 6:00 am. I like the later start time too.

We have a sunrise service every Easter at the foot of a large cross on the property where we plan to build on a hill overlooking Susanville, Calif. It's usually very cold. This year it will probably rain or snow.
