Resurrection is a good topic for Easter...which lasts till Pentecost.

Preach on the doubting Thomas -- that's what happened the Sunday after Easter.

I don't think Peter studied for that one, Bob. I think the Holy Spirit just sort of took over.:basic03

me of a camp meeting.....now i'm showing my age here...camp meeting...whats that? anyhow, one of the evangelists got up and walked to the pulpit, never opened his Bible or his notes, but just stood there and quoted scripture, many times a chapter at a time. The Holy Spirit came and the altars were lined with people who wanted God! One of them was me.

It does sometimes happen that way, Bob. But one of my homiletics instructors was once talking about preachers who counted on that happening EVERY Sunday, as opposed to putting in their time in prayer and study.
He said that some Sunday that preacher was going to have to stand in front of his congregation and say, "I have a message from the Lord for you this morning. That message is, 'Your pastor didn't prepare this week.'"

Interestingly enough, can anyone find a Scripture that even hints that Jesus "prepared" a sermon? How about Peter? Paul?
(Paul at least asked for scrolls which perhaps indicates study... He also told Timothy to study but that doesn't specify that he should study x hours this week in sermon preparation...)
There seems to be no Biblical record of NT "ministers" taking time to specifically prepare specifically sermons. At least none that comes to my mind at this time.

Supposedly, some young preacher told Wesley that he didn't need to study he just let the Holy Spirit inspire him.
Wesley asked, "Has the Holy Spirit ever inspired you to preach from a passage you hadn't studied?"

I have heard Reuben Welch preach a sermon quoting only scripture. He would get blessed and we would get blessed. He preached one fantastic sermon on John 17. It was a full-blown sermon (whatever that is). We had it on tape in Africa and wore it out. Ordered another and I think it also was worn out. I digress.
