I've added a nifty enhancement for youtube links. It used to be that if you posted a youtube link that it would show as just a link. To embed it in the post you had to click on the little filmstrip icon and enter the link. Now, any youtube link will result in the youtube being embeded in the post.

Second, I've added a "status and mood" extension. You'll note that on any of your posts that there's a couple of pencil icons under your name in the upper left of the post. Click on the first one to type a short status statement. Click on the second one to select a mood icon. These can be changed anytime you want and changes made are applied to your posts throughout the forum.

I'm moving forward on a major update to the "Thanks" add on. I don't want to lose the "Thanks" already given, so I'm researching the replacement mod at this time. The replacement will also support "laughing" and "praying" but I'm not sure I'll be able to save those already given. Anyway - I think I'll be able to do the upgrade before the week is out.

Enjoy.

I see you can also change your status and mood from your profile.

Edit - In fact, I don't see the icons on my post. Maybe I'm missing something.

Edit agian - Now I see them.

Status AND mood? Is vBulletin trying to compete with Facebook? Does this mean I must constantly monitor my mood and make sure I'm close enough to NazNet to update all the ups and downs?

(Obviously, I have nothing to say. I just need a post so I can check out the new feature.)

The new youtube automatic embedding thing will be most useful. Thanks!

Hey, Marsha! You can laugh at each post twice now ... look at the bottom of yours. Still in the works, it appears ... the fixes, that is. ;)

Thanks, Scott, for all you do.

OK, Marsha ... you don't have to edit (as I tho't yesterday) to have the status icons show up at the top; just a "reload" of the page does that.

It would be really cool if vBulletin analyzed one's recent posts and then made an educated guess as to what your mood was. ;)

I had some unexpected time this afternoon and decided to take on the new "thanks" mod. It went pretty good and it is now up and running on the site. There are some nice features in it.

1. You'll find the "thanks" - "laughing" - and "praying" icons at the bottom of each post
2. Also, on the left, above those icons, you'll see Post Thanks with a little up arrow - click on it to see your stats
3. I was able to import all existing "thanks" stats - I didn't get the "laughing" or "praying" stats - so they are zeroed out and starting fresh
4. Near the top of every page you see the "Community" drop down menu - now you'll see the option for "Thanks Statistics"
5. If you click on your Profile (upper right) you'll see a new Thanks tab - you'll find personal information on Thanks given/received there.
6. Also, when you receive a thanks, laughing, or praying you'll receive notification of it in the notification menu, upper rigiht of all pages. (DISABLED)
7. Also - if you edit a post, all the Thanks are removed.

I think it is all working okay - if not, let me know and I'll look into it.

Just curious why that is.

I often find myself editing my posts, but mostly that's just to fix typos or add links I didn't have at the time. Usually that happens before anyone has had a chance to "Thank" the post, though...

I checked with the coder and it's not supposed to be that way. Apparently, others have the same problem since he said he's not been able to duplicate it. We have the lifetime upgrade license for the mod, so if he finds it and fixes it I'll be able to install it.

It would keep devious sorts from substantively changing their posts to make the thankers look like they support something other than they intended.

6. Also, when you receive a thanks, laughing, or praying you'll receive notification of it in the notification menu, upper rigiht of all pages.

I'm going to dislike this feature very much! The Notifications will become like the boy who cried wolf: An important notice will come through and be ignored because we will grow used to it just being a thank, laugh, or prayer notification. I for one, prefer, my "notifications" to be rare. That's the only it gets my attention.

The ability to toggle it off is promised in a future release of the mod. I'm not sure if it will be an administrator/universal on or off or if it will be a user selected option. I agree that it's a bit much.

One thing you might try is to avoid posting things that others will thank or laugh with or pray about.

I thought I might feel the same way Wilson does... but, fortunately, it doesn't pop up a little alert box when you get a thanks notification like it does when you have a private message. Or was that an option I selected at some point? I just got a PM, and got the pop-up window alerting me to it. I didn't get a pop-up window for the 5 thanks notifications I had sitting there.

So the new system works for me. :)

This is exactly why I clicked on this thread ... to say that, while I appreciate being thanked/laughed with, I don't particularly like it looking like I've got messages up at the top when it's only "so-&-so thanked," "so-&-so laughed." That could be countless notations for some throughout the day. Would just as soon have only messages noted up top there. ;)

If the promise of its being able to be toggled "off" in the near future comes through, guess we can tolerate it until then. ;)

Scott, please help me find this lightweight style for Naznet. I have seen you mention it a couple of times but I have not been able to find how to access it on my phone.

Edited to add: I found it! My only issue now is that I don't really want the lightweight style except on my phone. I suppose it is an all or nothing proposition (meaning I would need to change that setting each time I logged in alternately on the phone or on a computer)?

Bud, glad you found it. I set the lightweight style on the phone but it didn't change the view on my computer. The only way I can see lightweight on the computer is if I select it when visiting NazNet on the computer.

I've switched back and forth on my phone a few times, especially when I wanted to click on "thanks" for a post - as that feature isn't available in the lightweight style.

For the time being I've disabled the status and mood add on. I think it was slowing the forum down quite a bit. If someone wants to help me check it out we can get on the phone together and run time tests with it on and off.

Not so sure, Scott. Noticed that not only were we notified when we were thanked, but when we ourselves thanked someone else. We "already knew dat." ;)

So, since maybe we're all just used to expecting it to be a real "message" when we see a "notification," it might be a nice reversion, after all.

Again, thanks for all you do.

In case Scott is watching this thread...

While I'm with Shea on the notifications... I am so vain that I would like to be able to see (somewhere) when I've received a new thanks/laugh/pray.

The old system listed those posts with the most recent on the top, so I could quickly see if someone found one of my posts particularly meaningful.

I realize that things change with upgrades... but I'd rather deal with notifications then no place to see that at all.

But even if they were kept for vanity's sake, Jon, what about those received that remind us where we've done that? Is there possibly any way for people to learn of thanks given to them without having to go through a list of what they themselves have done ... maybe there's that split available?

Still don't really think it necessary, only expecting messages up top of the page at "notifications," but if some want it, guess we could handle getting the few that someone else might do ... don't need all those where we thanked/laughed with someone!

Actually, you need to go to "My Profile" and then select the Post Thanks/Like tab. More information than before, which is great, but off on a page by itself, which is a little less convenient. Overall, a positive change in my view.

Gina I'm sure you are mistaken. You only received a notification when you RECEIVED a thanks, etc. If you clicked on the notification link, you went to the page that records both thanks given and received, but giving someone thanks didn't trigger a notification.

Of course, I've turned off the "thanks" notifications for everyone now, so the only way you can see who has thanked/laughed/prayed is to go to that page: Profile/Thanks-Like tab.

Oooh, I see. Well, I knew we would see what we'd done, not just what others had done. So, since there were probably some of both there when we saw "notifications," just didn't realize that it was only the one kind that would activate that notice. ;)

After considerable searching I found the fix I was looking for. Now, if you click on "My Profile" you'll see that the Thanks/Likes tab is opened by default. So, to check your many words of "Thanks" just click on "My Profile."

If you want to see the top 50 of each category or just a raw list of thousands of "thanks" given, click on "Community" then, Thanks/Likes stats.

Hey, Scott.

I appears that not many of use the hybrid view so perhaps there aren't many to request an option if it is available.

Here's the deal. When I look at the structure of the hybrid view, I sometimes see this:
2218

When I go down and look at the posts, I see this:

2219

The "more" replies aren't there. I'm missing three responses to Billy's 2:12 post as shown below after opening the "more reponses":

2220

Is there a setting that prompts the "more replies" line rather than showing all the posts in the thread? If so, can we take a vote on changing it so all posts are shown?

Marsha

You have not because you ask not. I'd never noticed that setting, but indeed, there is one. It was at 5, but it's now at 30.

I'll mention that Billy found that the thanks mod doesn't always work properly when using the threaded view. I reported it, but the response wasn't all that encouraging. If the mod is updated to fix the bug I'll apply the fix.

Thanks! I'm glad I asked. And I'm glad I discovered the "Snipping Tool" in Windows 7 that makes it easier to grab a piece of the screen to show what's happening.
