That sure brings back some memories!!
My Husband was stationed in Kevlavik Iceland with the Air Force from 1987 to 1989. (at a Navy Base)
We have some friends who joined a 4wheelers club on base and we would join them and go on tours of the country. Crossing streams and some larger rivers! That was scary! We enjoyed it so much getting to see the country that way.
On the first picture of Gullfoss...where it "bends" on the left side of the falls....you can walk out there on that...That was scary cause there are NO RAILINGS on any of the waterfalls..geysers . No "park rangers" to keep you from dangerous sections. You are on your own! I always wondered what happened if someone got hurt...in the middle of nowhere...and it is in the middle of no where!!!
The geysers were the same way...people walking up to the holes and looking in...walking between them...that was really weird to me.. no saftey concerns.
Also toured 2 factories..one where they make Icelandic Sweaters, and the other was a where they made Icelandic Pottery..a mix of pottery material and lava rock.. I still have the one bowl I bought there. Too expensive for me at that time to buy more than that.
Our Boys were 2 and 4 yrs old at the time...so they rememeber hardly anything. the 4 yr old (now in his 20's) remembers the wind. I was holding his hand and this gust came up knocked him off his feet and he was flapping behind me like a flag!! Poor baby!
He loved the Puffins. He tells us if he ever gets the money he wants to go back and take a tour they have for Puffin watching.
Thanks for the memories!!!
If you get to go...you should!
