Hi everyone!

Well, I've done it. I have registered to participate in the 3-Day Walk for Breast cancer this November in Phoenix. I will be walking 20 miles per day for 3 days -- yes, 60 miles, and staying in A TENT at night and the whole 9 yards!!! LOL No, make that the whole 60 miles!!

In order to participate in this event, I must commit to raising $2200.00 for breast cancer research. I am sure that breast cancer has touched many of our lives, and so if you'd like to make a donation in the name of a friend or family member who has had breast cancer, I'll be happy to wear that person's name on my shirts as I walk. Or if you just want to donate so that I can trudge 60 miles through the desert in Phoenix, that's fine, too!

I'm writing to everyone I've ever met in my entire life, SO, if you'd love to help in this great endeaver, please send me your snail mail address and I'll send you a self-addressed envelope to forward your donation. I'll be sending out the first mailers in about a month -- so keep it in mind. I appreciate it!!

My personal challenge starts now. I must work up to being able to walk 20 miles 3 days straight. I've walked 10 miles straight many, many times, but I've never walked 20 miles at once -- mainly because I just don't usually have that kind of time. But believe me, I'll make the time as I go through this training process.

SO, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write to me at GrantNaz@aol.com, and give me your snail mail address. If this message is not appropriate for NazNet, this post will self-destruct in 5 seconds.....

We'll call it the Dana Memorial Fund because if your not dead by the time you're done, you'll feel like you are dying. That is a lot of miles! I don't know if I could walk ten miles.

Well, Joel, I used to walk 35 miles per week until I got pneumonia last year about this time. Then I slacked off to nothing for a while, then on and off, but not regularly like I was....... Just now getting back into it a mile at a time! I needed a goal, I guess. And this seemed like a good one!! HA HA HA

and you know -- I'm more worried about sleeping in a tent than I am about walking 20 miles a day for 3 days. That seems easy to me -- but the tent? Well, honey, I'm not a camping out kinda girl. That's the part of this whole walk that bothers me the most -- that and those.....:::::clearing throat:::::::: port-a-potties. Can you tell I don't rough it too often!!! Or never?? LOL

I hope you don't have to carry your own tent and gear. That would be like joining the Army. I can sleep right on the ground if it is fairly level and not too lumpy. Back when I had back trouble, we bought some fold up camp cots. They were reasonably comfortable and didn't cost much. I got a hunch you will be tired enough to sleep. It sounds like a fun time. I have walked maybe 5 miles. I've never tried just walking all day. I have Arthritis in my hips and knees (It runs in our family) and I can't even ride my bike very far any more. :basic04 One thing I miss about having a dog is taking him on long walks. I've thought about asking the people next door if I could walk their dog.

Whew!! I was afraid of that, too, Joel!! So one of the first questions I asked was whether I needed to train with a big back pack on my back!! But, no, they have vans that follow along with us for first aid, medical attention if needed (that kind of worried me a bit -- HA), and also carry our packs. We do have to take a sleeping bag, clothing, etc., but we don't have to carry it, thank the good Lord!!

My Mom had breast cancer 18 years ago. They caught it early thanks to mamograms. She is almost 91 now and still cancer free. I think I have your snail mail address if I can find my address book. How long do we have before we need to send you the money?

That is very nice, Joel. Well, the walk itself is the first weekend in November (3, 4, 5), so I would imagine that I'd need everything in by October. HOWEVER, after my registration is processed, I will receive a web address that people can go on line and make a donation to my account......so that might be easier for some. I'll post again in a couple of weeks once I get all the packet of information that they're sending me.

Thanks again, Joel. And I'm happy about that news of your Mom's!!

One of my friends mentioned that she does not donate to particular causes for particular types of cancer because she doesn't think it is fair that only one gets all the attention, etc. But you know, if there's a breakthrough in breast cancer research, it will benefit ALL cancer research in one way or another. I'm working on her for a donation!! LOL
