The following message came in my morning e-mail:

-------------------------------------
This is for everyone interested in motorcycles.

Calling All Bikers!

We have proposed a Nazarene Biker Alliance be added to the Adult Ministry division of our Sunday School and a Biker Rally at the 2009 General Assembly in Orlando, Florida! This Rally may be the first-ever Biker Rally conducted on a church denominational level and promoted around the world! This Rally will be our denomination’s history-making, first Biker’s Rally so we are excited about the potential.

The Rally idea was presented as a recommendation to the 2006 General Board and personally to Dr. J. K. Warrick, General Superintendent, Church of the Nazarene. Your letters of support for Biker Ministries, the NBA and The Rally were presented to Dr. Warrick by Dr. Larry Morris, Director of Adult Ministries for the Church of the Nazarene.

Dr. Warrick’s response was very positive and he indicated his interest and support. He also indicated his interest in attending our Biker Rally and riding his Harley!

In order for the Rally plans to move forward we must know the current level of interest for the National Bikers Rally within the various Biker Ministries. How many bikers in your local ministry would attend the Biker Rally at the 2009 General Assembly? If you are not part of a Biker Ministry, how many in your household has interest in attending the Rally?

We realize bikers west of the Mississippi River have a greater challenge to consider because of the distance. However, if you have ever wanted to take a cross-country ride, this is certainly the perfect opportunity for you to do so. You also have adequate time to plan for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure!

We will plan routes from all four corners of the United States to converge in Orlando on a given date and time, similar to the plan Harley-Davidson used for its 100th Anniversary Homecoming in Milwaukee in 2003. Our intent is to organize rallying points at Nazarene churches in major cities along the predetermined routes and possibly to hold biker services as we gather bikers along the way.

If the ride-in routes permit the riders to stay overnight in your city or community, would your church be interested in providing housing in your church or on your church grounds? If so, please inform us of your willingness to explore this possibility.

While 2009 seems a long way off an event like this requires significant investment in planning and resources. Knowing your level of interest at this point helps us anticipate the needs and plan properly.

If you would like to see this rally take place and be a participant, simply reply to this article at:

adultministries@nazarene.org

with a "YES" and the number of bikers in your group or family who might be attending in the subject line (example: YES - 3).

If you know bikers who would be interested but do not have access to e-mail, print this out and distribute it as needed. They can respond by sending a post card or letter in support of the rally to:

Church of the Nazarene
International Headquarters
Adult Ministries - Biker Rally
6401 The Paseo
Kansas City, MO 64131

We believe this is an opportunity to present the Church of the Nazarene as a biker friendly denomination to the world. The result will be men and women, who will not be reached any other way, finding Christ through the Nazarene Biker Alliance Ministries in Nazarene Churches. If you are unable to support the rally by your participation, we would ask you support it through your prayers.

Makes me want to get my 'M' licence and buy a bike and go for a ride, a long ride, but a ride. Orlando from our church in Pefferlaw, On is about a 22 hr car ride. But what an adventure it would be. I think I would get a Gold Wing. Can you get a side car for the dog?

Several members of the local Bikers For Christ (BFC) attend our church....in fact our Pastor and future father inlaw is a member. One guy is a great one on one with bikers....he lived to the fulliest the biker lifestyle....I mean the fulliest. He has such a wonderful testimony.

Every other month they will make presentations at other churches (all denominations) explaining what they stand for and try to reach out to non-christian bikers by going on runs, stop and talking at shows, etc....

I would love it if the COTN would recognize and sponsor such a ministry.

YA!

We could call them the, "NAZ RIDERS MC"

I first was a striker with the Christian Riders MC back in 1980. Full patched member until 1985. Made an honouary member for life and even got to keep my colours! Like there is only ever two members who was ever voted to keep their colours. My dad, and myself.

Dad and I started a chapter in Uganda back in 1995. The first of its kind in Africa!
The Christian Riders MC is the second oldest Christian Bikers club in North America. The oldest in Canada.

I think I am going to put 2009 on my calendar. Orlando, here we come!
