I have two deer shoulder roasts and I have no idea how to cook them. I have never cooked with deer meat before.

venison roats, i usually do in the crockpot similar to a beef roast - add some onion soup mix and a can of cream of mushroom soup and a can of mushrooms, and about 1/2 cup of water -- let it cook on low for 8 to 10 hours... it'll be very tender and the soup will help make a great gravy for serving over mashed potatoes.

A bit of garlic [fresh or powdered], along with maybe a smidgeon of worcestershire sauce ... gives it a wee bit of zing ... against too much of that "wild" flavor, maybe? when my nephew got a buck or two, he gave me a few pieces, and I marinated them with a mix of things, including these two. But, in a crock pot, it cooks long/slow enough to be so nice and tender, jen's recipe sounds good, without the pre-cooking marinating.

Yum! 'Wish he'd go hunting again ... or someone would! ;)
