My daughter Bethany is a junior at SNU and that girl has a nose for storms. She called me and said that the air feels like a severe tornado day...and could I check noaa weather for her.
Her nose was right...there is a very high threat of large damaging tornados and larger than baseball size hail. Praying for them all.

Bethany sent me this picture for Mother's Day...she wrote, "You keep me afloat. I love you, Mommy." It was so sweet I just about cried.

Ah, yes! Springtime in Oklahoma! Thanks for the heads up, Cynthia. We rarely have the TV on these days so I was oblivious until I saw your post. I'm not too crazy about having the sirens go off unexpectedly. BTDT, was NOT fun!

Keep safe Betty. I'm watching KOCO channel 5 live on the computer. There are some small storms popping out in Caddo county...so it looks like the cap is starting to break. They expect them to go severe within 10 minutes.

I was outside just about 15/20 minutes ago and it was almost clear. The sun was shining, but a little hazy. About 5 minutes later, it was completely overcast. We've had some thunder now. No tornado warnings at this point in the storm(s) headed for OKC. It's just coming into Mustang/Yukon now. I've got KOCO on here, too. Looks like we are going to get clobbered with some rain here in a few minutes, but nothing too serious otherwise. Most of it is north of us.

LOTS of devastation out east of here. They are saying this one appears to be second only to the May 3, 1999 tornado which was classified as F-5. There were actually about 20 tornadoes reported. The biggest one is the one that did so much damage east of OKC. It was estimated to be at least a quarter mile wide and stayed on the ground for a long time. They are thinking it was at least an F-3 and more likely an F-4. There are at least 4 confirmed dead and I heard one station say 5.

Thank you, Cynthia. We are grateful for God's protection. That picture you posted above was not the tornado that was spotted over Yukon. That is the one that did so much damage out east of OKC around Choctaw and Seminole. That was the deadly one. EMSA confirmed 2 dead in OKC and there were reports of 3 others somewhere else which would be the 5 that I heard the one station say. I don't know which station it was because we were switching back and forth part of that time. We watched Channel 4 for a good portion of the evening and that's the one that reported 4 dead, I think.
Mom called my brother who lives in Yukon to see how his son and family fared as they live out in the Choctaw area. Seems my nephew watched it from a short distance away, but they and those at the ministry they work for are all fine. My brother was thinking about buying a house on an acreage out in that area. He figures that won't happen because it's probably gone!
Here's a slideshow (http://www.kfor.com/lifestyle/kfor-severe-weather-may-10-2010-photogallery,0,1828422.photogallery) of the tornadoes and the damage. Picture 15 is the tornado that was seen in Yukon. Picture 13 might be the same one just a few minutes earlier. There are other pictures of it, too. The one seen out at Union City (didn't pay attention to the number) could also be the same one. There's a video on that same site that shows the tornado in Norman spin some cars around and turn a van over! Incredible!!

Thanks Betty. When I watched the clip I wondered if CNN labled it incorrectly. Glad you are all ok. My Paul my be up your way before long. He sets up appointments for a local roofing company to do appraisals of hail damage and last year he worked the hail storm in Bethany.

You didn't need a nose for weather to sniff that day's weather. It was daytime, but got very dark and ominous.
As my son once said on his way home from work a couple of years ago, on the right side of the road it was bright and sunny, birds chirping, and on the left it looked like Armageddon. He thought, "Hmmm, that almost looks like debris....wait a minute...that IS debris." :) LOL.
Unfortunately, it's dark here now and we can't really see the sky, so what's your daughter's nose telling her now???? :) 5:00 a.m.
All I know is that boot camp was cancelled and I'm rejoicing.

Well...if it is 5:00a.m. I can almost be certain that Bethany's nose is asleep...so it's probably not telling her much of anything. Her nose is tired...it is finals week and it has been stuck in a book for most of the time.
It was pretty amazing though...when Bethany called me around 2:30-2:45pm she had not seen a weather report and at that time the sky was completely bright and clear. She asked me to check the weather and told me that it felt like a severe tornado day...maybe she should be majoring in meteorology instead of Politics/Law and Spanish.
