Oh, my ... a hard one! One place I'll mention right away is Bug Cafe' ... decent Scrabble place [works well on dial-up, unlike some others mentioned here], a Towers game [their version of Upwords], easily used chess game, a Battleship clone, Othello clone, canasta game, and quite a few others.
Anyone want to try it, there are 8 games/15 turns/day for free; for more, there's a slight charge, but not too bad, if one does it for a year. Played free for a few years, then finally "took the plunge," when they had a 13-months-for-12-mo-price deal. Just had to ... for when things get slow elsewhere. ;)

If anyone wants to play one of the games, they ask someone's username. Mine's "composer."
Then, too, there's FB ... but that's frustrating on dial-up, so not so sure about that one.
Today someone came to the door re Comcast. Asked about internet w/o TV ... $30 for 6 months, then $45/month ... uh-uh ... $45!? So, we have to keep trying to figure it all out ... just about anything we've found is either a bit much at the start (like the air-cards), or is reasonable for only a few months, and then goes way up. Hmmmmmmm .......

Facebook takes up most of my internet time these days, but I'm also a regular on TV.com. On this site users like me add all the information about shows and actors. We also have profile pages where we can write blogs and comment on friends' blogs. It's got some technical problems, but I like the people, so I keep going back.

The sites I check most beyond NazNet often are www.Facebook.com, www.nu.nl (Dutch news site) and www.w124club.nl, a Dutch site for Mercedes W124 owners.

There is an Online Contest (OLC) site in Germany where soaring fanatics like me can post their flights. (file from the glider's flight recorder) The flights are scored and ranked daily based on kilometers flown and the glider's handicap. I check the ranking of US OLC flights daily (http://www.onlinecontest.org/olc-2.0/gliding/daily.html?st=olc&rt=olc&df=&sp=2010&c=US&sc=). The "Info" column link will take you to a page containing a map of the flight. In addition to the map viewing options, the Info page provides the ability to download a file for viewing the flight in GoogleEarth.
Though not my favorite, the one where I spend a lot of time and effort is "Soar Idaho (http://www.soaridaho.com/)."
Edit: Beings this is NazNet I should include my favorite CotN website (http://wesley.nnu.edu/).
