Someone may say, "Well, Acts only has 28 chapters." That is right, but Acts is the only Book in the Bible without a formal ending for it is still being written in the life of the New Testament Church.
I am reading for the third time, a book by Terry Teykl, "Acts 29 (Fifty Days of Prayer to Invite the Holy Spirit)." It can be obtained from Prayer Point Press, 2100 N. Carrollton Dr., Muncie, IN 47304, (765)759-0215, or 1 (888) 657-6067.
On page 18, Tekyl writes: "How easy it is to fall into the habit of just being at church---attend worship, pay our tithe, sing in the choir, attend more services, volunteer some time, give more money, and attend Sunday School. We can become so programmed, that like the tree planters, (an illustration on this same page), we totally lose sight of the meaning behind what we are doing. The result is that after years of 'doing' church', out relationships are still on the edge, our walk with God is in the same place it has always been, and our lost friends and family members are still without Jesus. We have passed the time, as if just being in the building has been our main objective."
What follows is some of the most challenging and encouraging material in being a Spirit driven church that really does have the results of a true New Testament church. Tekyl leads us in a study of 10 chapters in the Book of Acts and the study is so very refreshing compared with many we see today. The book is very helpful in starting to form us into praying congregations. It is designed to be studied and used by a group in training who will take the lead in bringing the church back to the power exhibited in the first century church. I joined the Local Church Prayer Leader's Network about four years ago and this isone of the books they have in their member's packet. Itis not a think book, but one that will help reshape a local church if a group of its people have a mind to follow what they find in it. The focus really is on seeing lost people saved and turned into radical disciples; not jsut talking about it, but putting our relationship with Christ into everyday shoe leather and seeing people brought to Christ as a result.
This is my third time through it and I am ready to lead a class using this book as our text with everyone in the class with their own copy. A powerful book!
