Prior to getting married, I never watched television. ever... Ok, maybe Sportscenter now and then. While I still don't watch much tv at all, I have gotten hooked on the show Survivor. I think it would be an amazing experience to be on the show.

Do any of you watch reality television at all?

Meghan and I watch three shows together: The Biggest Loser, Survivor, & The Amazing Race. We always watch AR on Sunday nights after a long day. We look forward to it together. The other two we tend to watch online after they've come out (though we'll watch Survivor at its normal time sometimes). Watching it online cuts down on how long it takes to watch and we can skip parts we know will be useless (as if any of it is useful!).

Those are Rachel's main three as well. She is also a Bacheolor/Bachelorette fan. I will sometimes watch BL and AR with her too. Sidenote: Biggest Loser is responsible for 4 marriages while Bachelor has 1. I find that interesting.

I appreciate the intent and purpose of the show. Yes, for sure, it's a reality television show designed to make ratings and money. And the name of the show is unfortunate and I think turns many away (I know it did for me at first). But if you watch it for more than a couple of episodes, you will notice that dropping weight is but part of how they help each individual. Their focus on self-image, purpose for living, etc. is well-done. I confess that most weeks I tear up at one point or another.

We were surprised by the unveiling of the latest couple last week (Sam and the girl from the purple team).

Although I skipped the current 'Survivor' run (heroes vs. villains) I am a fan and have watched most of the seasons. Some of the characters are really top-notch people. Yau Man comes to mind. Russell is probably the best player ever, even if he doesn't win the jury vote.

I have watched a number of other reality shows here and there. I liked 'The Apprentice' before it became 'Celebrity Apprentice' - which I think is pointless. I think that 'The Biggest Loser' strikes a successful balance between good taste and exploiting fat people.

I also like 'Bull Run', which is a long distance car race on the Speed channel, although I've not become a regular watcher.

This makes me sound like a real TV junkie, but I actually watch only one show religiously, and that is 'Lost'. Since that show is coming to an end, there will be a hole in my sparse viewing schedule in a few weeks.

Ok I watch Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen. And thus dies any respect any of you ever had for me. Oh and Mike and I have been watching Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. We watch all things on Hulu btw our TV does not get any reception, mainly due to the fact that it is not hooked up to any kind of antenna.

Only things that could perhaps be considered "reality" that I watch are: Cops, Diners-Drive-ins & Dives, 19 Kids & Counting, Border Wars, Pawn Stars, Deadliest Catch...stuff like that. I don't watch the 'contest' type shows...

I used to watch Bill Moyer's Journal. But he signed off of PBS. Now I get his newsletter. Bill Moyer's Journal was the very best, most excellent, finest TV available.

Does Man vs. Food count as reality television? Or is that a game show?

Whatever it may be, if it counts as reality television then I watch reality television fairly consistently.

Yeah, right ... unless one's taking dance lessons like you & Nan, it can make one feel more than a wee bit uncoordinated. ;)

That is an interesting concept ... they're there for something other than to "look for someone," and it "happens" ... perhaps that's part of what's wrong with the Bachelor/ette program ... whatever/whoever is there, they're to "pick someone" within a certain time frame. Not quite "real" ... what if the ones who've picked the candidates have just not picked some compatible enough, etc? Maybe helps prove the point that things "happen" while life happens, not necessarily when one's #1 goal is "finding someone"?

I don't like the yelling/screaming on the other kitchen programs named here [but I might just be more sensitive to that, living with way too much of it IRL as it is], but I definitely had to watch Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. Tho' the program's not on yet, we hope it expands, and continues doing some very needed good.

Heard he's not only there anymore, when it was his old time & he wasn't there. But does that mean he's gone to some cable channel, or just off TV, period?

Does Working at at CBS TV station, putting the commercials on at the right time, 40+ hours a week count? I do Thursday threw Sunday nights prime time 2:30 to 12:30. They pay me for watching tv. ooooh. But, yes, I enjoy survivor and amazing race. I do enjoy 24 on fox too. I'm just about cured on being a TV halic. A nice walk in the park, or working on my cars seems to be something to look forward to now.

Cops is, of course, numero uno.Through themiracle of cableI can find an episode of Cops on some channel 24/7. I also watch DriveIns, Diners and Dives. My idea of a fantasy road trip would be to do a DD&D tour. We also watch lot of Home & Garden shows: House Hunters , House Hunters International., Property Virgins and Holmes on Homes. My idea of hell is continuous rebroadcasting of Bachelors, etc. My wife watches Dancing.....& Am Idol.
And, of course, there are all the favorites on the Hitler, er I mean, History Channel. Good stuff.

I have tried watching 19 Kids & Counting but, as an only child, I just can't handle the concept for very long. ;)

Biggest Loser is my favorite. I used to watch What not to wear but then it became too stylized for me.

I have watched American Idol and Dancing with the Stars in the past, but not this season. The only reality shows I'm watching now are What Not to Wear and Who Do You Think You Are? And I watch those sporadically. WDYTYA could be a half hour show if they didn't drag it out so much. I hate that part of reality shows.

Bill Moyers is 75 and retired from tv. So he will not be on tv regularly anymore. We need a new Bill Moyers who can investigate and cut tot he quick of the issues.

Design Star.

We used to watch Dancing with the Stars, but my daughter thought the skimpy costumes that the women wore were "slutty" -- she felt uncomfortable watching it and supporting that type of dress (or UNdress, whatever the case may be). Out of respect for her, and I also agree with her, I stopped watching it, too. I'm proud of her for taking a stand on something like that, because she really loved the dancing part.....

Who Do You Think You Are? Calling me The Biggest Loser just because my wife and I don’t have 19 Kids & Counting. She still thinks I’m the Deadliest Catch. Why, she’s chasing me all over This Old House.

I’ve beaten cancer twice, so shouldn’t I be known as a Survivor? Just, yesterday the skin doc said I may have had a sunburn as a kid or a Bachelor, even, and it took years to develop into that dreaded word. Isn’t that Amazing? Race - the fact that I’m Caucasian - may also have a bearing.

Nope...we don’t watch reality shows.

I enjoyed the Apprentice much more when it was not Celebrity Apprentice.

It was a learning experience to watch how individuals would come to making decisions. Actually, it was very good leadership training for anyone who watched. They dealt with a problem, had to offer proposals and come to solutions, deal with interpersonal communications, develop into a team and then analyze the outcomes.

The first few years of the program, when they had ordinary people attempting to be hired as Trump's assistant, I felt more connected because these were generally very average people who got to demonstrate leadership. The current version, in my opinion, is less entertaining, though has many of the same dynamics. However, it focuses more on prolonging the careers and recognition of falling stars.

Know what you mean ... but could he keep hiring people for huge projects indefinitely, such as the dude who was to oversee some big building project out west somewhere (Vegas, was it?). They must've tho't that "the Donald" was interesting enough that, whether actually hiring people or overseeing celebrity projects, they'd keep it going. It does seem to help charities out, not all bad.

But, yes, it definitely is different; find myself not watching as much. Since I like to see how their projects come out, such as a commercial or two recently, I find myself channel-flipping from that to something else, & back & forth throughout. ;)

Cops is, of course, numero uno.Through the miracle of cable I can find an episode of Cops on some channel 24/7.

They show Cops reruns here every day from noon - 1:00. I have the DVR in our bedroom set to record them everyday so I can have something 'fun' to watch once my wife goes to sleep. (she needs more sleep than me)

Cops is usually a great source of entertainment.

I've got to say I resisted reality TV for a long time but got trapped in Survivor world and I enjoy it. Amazing Race however is my favourite show on TV. Apart from that there are a series of UK property shows that I love: Property Ladder; Location, Location, Location; and Relocation, Relocation.

I haven't seen a good reality TV show since they took Jerry Springer off the air!

Montel and the others just don't come close to the real life drama you used to see on his show. :smilies1722:

For those that aren't aware, I'm not serious. The only reality TV we watch in our house is Survivor and Amazing Race. We used to watch the Mole but that never went over in the ratings real well and apparently didn't pan out in the long term. My wife watches survivor solo because it's just gotten tiring to me and the where's the reality when after about 16 seasons everyone is just playing a character from a previous episode. One plays the mean girl from season 1, another plays the quiet guy from season 6, another plays the strong guy from season 10 and another plays the manipulative one from season 12. It's like I'm watching characters from previous shows being rurun. Then when you actually bring back the people who were playing characters to begin with to now play characters of the characters it really gets pretty unsuprising.

I do watch amazing race with my wife and my daughter. We usually pick choices the first night and then see which our our teams gets put out first. Last weekend was unusual because none of us had picked the winners to win.

I have watched Amazing Race for several years. I record it and set the timer to 2 hours because during football season the game would run into the show time. I heard about The Biggest Looser for years but never watched it until the last two seasons. I enjoy seeing the change in the people and hope they can keep up the correct diet. I don't think anyone can keep up the exercise routine but many are almost at their goal when they show is over so they don't need that much exercise.

Do you consider American Pickers and Pawn Stars on the History Channel reality shows? The American Pickers reminds me of our brother in law who is now deceased. He was the number one junk collector and had a big pole barn full of things plus things at his house. Bob's sister had an auction after he died. They owned a home at a summer vacation home area near a lake. We spent a lot of time visiting there before she sold the place. We would go bicycling on his 15 or 20 antique bicycles. They sold quickly at the auction plus lots of other things.

We have property ladder here too. I've watched it a little but it doesn't hold my interest much.

Yeah, but Uncle Curt wasn't into the "selling" aspect of collecting the junk. :) You needed something, he had it somewhere out in his pole barn...and only he knew where things were stashed. :)

I don't watch much TV at all, and when I do, it's usually comedy or sitcoms. As a teacher, I also don't have much time for TV during the school year, so I like some of the shows that only air in the summer. I really like "So you think you can dance" and I watched "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution" this year. Other than that, no reality shows.
