OK a person has heard that a rumour, all lies, some years back has influenced his career, what should that person do? Stand and fight this dishonesty, or just accept it, though he could swear on a heap of Bibles it isnt true?

I searched the scriptures and came upon this advice in Romans 12

Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things,
but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath:
for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink:
for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

You cannnot change anything. You will just open up the past and cause more harm. Just live with the lies and let people see you for who you are.

GE 26:12 Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him. 13 The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy. 14 He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him. 15 So all the wells that his father's servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, the Philistines stopped up, filling them with earth.

GE 26:16 Then Abimelech said to Isaac, "Move away from us; you have become too powerful for us."

GE 26:17 So Isaac moved away from there and encamped in the Valley of Gerar and settled there. 18 Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father had given them.

GE 26:19 Isaac's servants dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there. 20 But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen and said, "The water is ours!" So he named the well Esek, because they disputed with him. 21 Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah. 22 He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, "Now the LORD has given us room and we will flourish in the land."

Isaac did nothing wrong and had worked hard - he did not fight over the wells that were rightfully his but moved on and dug more. Not an easy thing to do.

'Wish I did have the resources to "dig a new well" [live in other quarters, with my 4-footed bit of comfort ... my baby ... Sasha]. ;)
