I am looking for a laser printer to use for moderate home use (I will print large documents from time to time). Text quality is most important, and I probably do not want less than a 250 sheet feeder. Looking for a printer that has its own rendering engine (instead of using Windows), so memory matters. It should not curl the pages. USB and/or Wireless. $200 price range or less. (All in ones, with scanner/copier, etc are fine so long as they meet my printing requirements). Finally, I would like to see a low per page cost, maybe in the 2 cent range or better.
In short I want the best laser printer I can find for printing text documents in the $200 range.
Any suggestions?

I have used laser printers in my office for years, but have recently changed to ink jet. The primary reason is the high cost of the toner cartridge. When I have time, I refill my ink jet cartridges but can't refill the toner cartridge.

I have a pretty good ink jet (as far as print quality). But I need a non-ink solution. One problem with ink (not counting photo printers) is if the printed page comes in contact with any moisture, the print runs. Most the time I don't care, but sometimes I need a more durable medium. Usually ink cost more per page. Though maybe in black only using refills this is not true, I known using recharged toners one can save a bundle. My ink printer is about 5.5 cents in black and 17 cents in color. The worst home laser I've seen is at 3.2 cents. Averages. What is your cost for black?
Also I am looking for 15-22ppm on the print speed. My ink is about 6ppm in black.
My ink printer is a bit old, the driver only goes to Window 2000. But it runs so well that when I need to replace it, I will look at Xerox first.

I can't tell you my cost per page. I am spending about a dollar a day, but I have not counted the number of pages.

I did a quick check at overstock.com and found this for $174.99:

I would just see what I could find out there online. There are lots of bargains out there.

We've been using a LaserJet 1200 (the one with PostScript) for about three years now and have been impressed with its output and reliability. A refurb cartridge can be had for about $55-65 (3,500 copies), which is a smidge under 2 cents per copy - and if you have a Sams Club membership, new cartridges are $52. (Love Sam's Club!) The only thing I regret is that it doesn't plug directly into our home network....we're sharing it to our Windows and Mac machines via one of the Windows boxes. Works fine, but a bit of a kludge.
I don't think HP makes this printer any more, but you might be able to find it on eBay or at a discount website for your price range.

We had a Laserjet 6p in our church office for about 4 years. Then we started having all kinds of sensor and roller problems with it. It ended up in the trash.
I've found the reviews at www.pcmag.com very helpful.

hp 6p was not one of the better machines put out by hp. They do make some good machines, however 6p was not one of them. Had several we had to get rid of.
