The responses they posted are perhaps more significant than the original editorial. Several of them were from Christians (or former Christians) who have been disillusioned by the church (a topic that has come up elsewhere on NazNet.)
It is sad to note that the biggest critic of the article was actually a professing Christian.
What can a local church in America do? Like she said, most of us can't offer medicine, etc.
Suppose my church decided to minister to AIDS patients. What could/should we actually do?
