I've posted stuff by Linwood Barclay before. I think he is very funny. In this column he talks about people who "wear their cellphones".

Barbara, the column is funny. I like the fax machine in the pants statement. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Seriously, I am becoming more convinced that some, maybe many, of the chronic cell phone people are behaving from a base of insecurity. They are so desparate to be in the loop, they become addicted to their cell phones.
I was in a Starbucks a few days ago, and suddenly the morning silence was broken by this man practically screaming into his cell phone. Many of us looked at each other and rolled our eyes. One guy left in disgust. The rest of us listened to one side of a conversation of the caller telling his wife when he would get home and how much he loved her. I was afraid it was going to get X rated. It didn't, thankfully. So, I finished my "grande, bold, no-room" coffee.

I think those gadgets are a real God-send for schizophrenics. When everyone else is wearing them, it allows the schizophrenic to fit right in. When someone starts talking to himself you can't tell whether the voice in his head, to which he's responding, is coming from an earpiece or from his own delusions. I think we should all wear one, just as a gesture of compassion.

P.S. I just wanna be a blessing.

I REALLY wish people would use some cell phone manners!! ( I myself refuse to leave mine on unless my truck is broke down or there's some other emergency)
At work one day, a customer walked in and was looking around and books and gifts. I asked her how she was doing and if I could help her find something in particular... then she held her hand up to me as if to say "one second please, I'm busy!" Then it dawned on me, she had one of these little ear phones on and happened to be "listening" to the caller.
I have also had a few women answer their phones right in the middle of Bible Study!! Drives me crazy!!!

That is the funniest story so far regarding the "ear" phone.
I think people who wear them must have "issues".
Thanks for sharing the column. I have made a note as to the website where
more of his stories can be read.
This made my day!

Just a warning that occasionally he writes a column mocking Bush. :-) But he does the same with our Prime Minister and our Provincial Premier. So it is not an anti US thing, he just takes jabs at politicians from time to time.

Well, guess I'm "OK" ... not only don't wear an "ear phone," but don't "wear" my phone in my pocket, or wherever. In fact, most of my calling time is outgoing, because I give people the number, then leave it sitting in my purse, or elsewhere in the house, so I don't hear it ring.
Then when I think to call someone, I'll pick it up, and rather than the usual in the little window, it'll say, "missed call(s)." So, most calls are return ones, rather than picked-up ones. ;) If I ever do start wearing an ear phone, somebody stop me ... please!
