Does anyone have any info on how the biker ministry started in the CotN? I've heard it's pretty widespread, at least in the States. I'm trying to get something started for truckers at the local level and would like to look at the origins of this ministry as a case study for the one I hope will exist.

The case study won't translate perfectly(a ministry to truckers would be similar to a ministry to migrant workers) but I hope to get a little info from it at least. Any info that anyone could provide would be appreciated. As I've spent time with long-haul truckers it's become apparent that there are immense spiritual and communal needs that this group has that aren't beng met.

Seems to me I recall a minitsry that someone has where he has a 6-wheeler ( hope that is right ) at a truck stop and holds services in it for truckers on the road . He is there for counselling as well.

The local truck stop has such a ministry. Don't know how it got started though.

I knew a man who had a truck.
Don't know how he got it, though.
(Sorry...I couldn't resist!)
Ban me, if you must.

I won't ban you. :) I am more concerned about the biker ministry's beginnings though. Perhaps I should have titled that in this thread.

I have a Nazarene fiend who is a member CMA Christian Mortcyclis Association and I also know that the truck stop near the Sun Valley Indian Schoo has its own chapel.

Would it be possible for me to get his contact info from you?

Hank, I don't know if there is a "biker ministry" in the "greater" CoTN. There is the Nazarene Motorcycle Fellowship, but it is really just a clearing house for information about biker ministries in Nazarene churches or by Nazarenes. They have a facebook group. My previous church has a pretty active biker ministry headed by Tim "Padre" Howze. Interesting note...I was at the 2007 Biker Sunday and there was quite a crowd. Last night I was watching Gangland with my daughter and they were profiling the Biker group "Warlocks". I have met the national president of that group -- at that biker ministry in 2007! That came as quite a surprise to me. If you want more info on the NMF, I would contact David Middendorf, he is heavily involved. Contact me by email and I will try to get David's contact info. I am not on here very often lately, so email would be the best way to get in touch with me if I can help you in any way. There is also a book by the CMA founder that I can probably lay my hands on that talks about his starting CMA. A few other biker ministries I am in light contact with from time to time that might could give you some info.

Randy Dority is a Nazarene Elder who currently runs a biker ministry (among other things).

Here's the link to the biker page of his web site: http://www.freeindeedministry.org/6.html

If you contact him for info, tell him I sent you!

of course. i see alot of people know people who are ministering to truckers which makes me glad. i don't know if it'd be realistic to expect to start a churchwide ministry to truckers in the u.s. or not in a church as congregationally oriented as the CotN but i'd at least like to try and see what it might look like.
