Every time I click on the Thunderbird icon I'm getting the following image on my computer monitor: (see attached)
"The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Thunderbird running on your computer, (CHECK!), then restart Thunderbird to try again."
I've now BTDT 5,392 times.
To no avail.
Help?
thanx

ps - yes, it really is 1:50 a.m. here - don't get old, you won't like it.

Have you tried rebooting the computer?
Sometimes programs leave processes running in the background, even though it looks like you've closed it. With some of the processes running, the computer thinks that the application is still running.
In any case, rebooting the computer is usually one of the first and best things to do when you're running into trouble like that.

oh yes, Jon, BTDT many times - I've even shut the computer down/off for 20 mins and that didn't work either. I'm puzzled.

You can do a Google search with the error message you posted and read the recommended fixes as other people have had the same issue or problem. That's always a good first start in any support issue. I don't use Thunderbird so I haven't run into your issue.

Yep, that's good advice. I used Thunderbird in a corporate environment for about six months. I recall something along the line of tricking Thunderbird into running the update by temporarily moving the resource file folder (I think that's what it was called), thus clearing out whatever setting or file was hanging.
