But I did not see Pooh Bear or Piglet this time...
In this forest I have spent many years. Since I was 4 years old I have been exploring it, and taking care of it. There are many secrets within it.
Developement is all around it now. Million dollar homes are going up. These pics are of my Dad and I cutting firewood for the winter months. For 70 he is not doing too bad.
The day it is sold for developement my heart will break... :basic04
I really pray that this never happens.
The memories are endless...

Please be careful when talking about us older guys. At 74, I still get out and work, but not necessarily as much as I once worked in my "100 acre woods."
We live on 2 very wooded acres that are pretty high maintainence. I still cut dead trees or trees in areas that need to be thinned out.
BTW, I noticed in your pics who was actually working, and who was just holding the axe. :basic05
You are correct about being sad to see an old familiar area become populated. The place where I grew up in Houston, TX is now all commercial. They did make a little park out of the area where my grandmothers home sat, among the oak trees that my grandfather planted around 1890.
Incidentally, I did enjoy your pics.
Thanks

That is one reason I keep burning fire wood. To keep ole Dad going! :basic05
He use to jog 5 miles a day. He did that for about 30 yrs! After his second knee surgery, due to so much jogging to keep himself in shape, he had to give it up.

When I show these pics to Da Vinci he will be drooling more than ever! I'd love to see him pick up the log your dad is kneeling beside!:basic07

thought the only people who got in the woods were ministers in their sermons.

thought the only people who got in the woods were ministers in their sermons. Them, too?
But us "woodsy" types get there all the time.
In fact, I just came back inside the house after a stroll in the woods behind our house in this 97 F weather.
Whew!
I was chasing off 3 young raccoons that appeared at our bird feeders here at 3 p.m.
Strange. And they did not appear to be rabid... just hungry.

In my opinion, the best part of your post is that you're cutting fire wood with your seventy year old dad. What a great treat for both of you.

Here in the US the government can take your land away to build a development. That is happening right here where I live. The rich and snobby built an expensive golf community between the town I live in and the airport. They lengthened the runway so they could land their Lear Jets. Now they don't want to listen to their jets but it is okay for us common folk to hear them. The land the airport is on is now very valuable since it is next to the golf community. They want to build homes there and sell them to get more money. To do that they want to take away a century farm and close one of only 2 paved roads to a near by small town. We don't need a new airport and they don't need more money but you know who will win.

Beautiful pictures, Mark!
My brother-in-law built a new home outside of Smithville, MO. He has about 20 acrea and took out just enough trees to put the house in. All the rest remained intact.
Not too far from there is a new housing development. Not a tree in sight. GRRRRRR!
