My wife is canning more green beans, freezing some, and canning more beets, but the real prise will come in about two days. It is then that I will be able to pick my first vine ripened tomatoes---you will hear me sigh with great satisfaction when I take my first bite. She enjoys her yellow crookneck squash (a weed as far as I am concerned), but I humor her. I enjoy the cukes, gabbage and other goodies from the garden.
Now for all you squash lovers---do not bother writing me for it will not change my mind----"weeds is weeds."

I picked me first tomatoes last Saturday. Mine aren't doing too well this year. It's been too hot and dry.

we used to have a huge tree in our backyard, and several years ago it blew down, plugging up the whole back alley and ruining the neighbor's garage.
Now, the backyard is uneven, but my motherinlaw who lives with us, threw a watermelon rind out there a year after, and out of one watermelon plant that covered nearly the whole back yard, we picked something like 19 watermelons! Many years ago we had hauled in some black top soil and anything you plant back there grows to be very strong!

Garden rippened tomatoes have always been my favorite. Fresh sweet corn ranks right up there also. I also like the yellow squash, grilled with a little olive oil and some seasoning.
