View Full Version : Poll: What time do you normally get up for the day?

I'm an early riser (does that surprise you?)
For years I opened the plant where I worked and many mornings - especially during our busy season - needed to be there at 6:00 - therefore I'm, more or less, still in that habit.
It would be rare, indeed, for me to sleep till 6:00...and most mornings I'm awake by 4:00 a.m.
And of course, one of the first items of business is to check NazNet!
:)

This survey was obviously designed by a morning person. Thinking about this poll, Bruce's about embryonic stem cell research, as well as polls I've created and then realized were inadequate, it really causes me to appreciate the skill that professional pollsters have. It's incredibly difficult to create a poll that will really reflect what the survey respondents think, rather than what the pollster thinks.
I work 1pm-10-pm, get to sleep at about 1-2am and get up at around 10:30am.

Usually around 1:00PM but I can get up earlier if I need to. I admit that working nights is not for everyone but I have a night metabolism. Even when I was a kid it took me a long time to go to sleep at night and a long time to wake up in the morning. I always did the worst in my morning classes at school and I am not fit to drive in the morning. Mom used to make us kids go to bed a long time before our friends did. I just laid there bored for hours and hours. Alarm clocks shatter my nerves and I am edgy all day. Judging by the day shift people I work with, I think a lot of people are like that. Then they come to work and drink coffee which makes them more crabby. They would probably be nice people if they had more sleep. I have had to come in and work days a few times. The shift starts at 6:30AM but nobody does anything until 9:30 or 10:00 AM. I get a LOT more done in a shift. My mom is up at sunrise and is ready to go. I'm just not like that. Someone needs to work nights so it may as well be someone who likes to, like me.
I always say, I work to live, I don't live to work, so why give someone else the best hours of the day. When I get up the stores are open and it's light out side and I can get things done. If I get up and there is snow to shovel or the car don't start, I have time to take care of things. On the day shift there are too many bosses and people who think they are bosses. The night shifts are a lot less stressful.

If you're up by 4 or 5 am., what time do you go to bed? I suppose that my sleep habits are similar to those of Dana and Nelson.
I try to get to bed about 10 p.m.
Typically, I am at the fitness center between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., 4 to 5 days per week.
I only need 6 hours of sleep, so I am usually awake around 4 a.m., except for mornings like this, when we had thunderstorms, starting about 2:30.
I was up about 3:15, and will suffer from that later today.
Lotsa coffee this morning.
But PTL... we received about 2.80" of much needed rain!
I won't mind suffering today, because we had only received a total of about .60" of rain so far in July.

I couldn't vote here. I'm a REALLY early riser -- usually up before 3 a.m.
My family thinks I need hospitalization (psych, that is)!

:basic01 When you find the right hospital, perhaps you'll let me know. I think that my family feels the same way about me.

Well, Cecil, the only time during which I could've answered in this poll "4-5am" was when Danny was alive & well. Being the dutiful wife I tried to be ... awake or not ... I'd be up with Danny trying to pack his lunch, make a wee bit of breakfast. This was partially how Danny got some morning laughs ... watching this half-awake gal do some strange things sometimes.
No, I'd not stay up after he left for work ... except on the most rare occasions ... I'd go back to sleep until a more "normal" arising time, as I'm not at all a naturally morning person.

My preferance is to get up sometime around noon and go to sleep around 3 a.m. Now if only I could get a night job! Substitute Teaching just does NOT accomodate my biological clock:fav17 :fav17 :fav17

You and I have the same biological clock. I gave up trying to fight it many years ago.

Maybe you need to move to a different time zone.... like Hawaii!
That's what I tell my wife, because of her preferred sleep habits.

I get up around 8. If left to my natural habits I stay up until 2-3 and sleep until noon. That worked well when I was working swing shift, but not so well mothering two small children...although when I had just one we were night owls. My husband gets up at 5. Crazy! He's then in bed about 9-10pm. We are very opposite, but it works well for us, we both get our quiet, kid-free time - his in the am, mine in the pm. :)

Crazy??
Not us fellows who get up early!
Sounds a lot like our household.
Please note that I am posting this just before 4:30 a.m., I went to bed about 10:00 last night.
Have been up since 4:00.

I get up about 7 a.m. Sunday through Friday. On Saturdays I sleep in if I can. At least until 9, sometimes until 11. My husband gets up at 4:30 on work days. He likes to have plenty of time for his devotions and to watch some of Sports Center and the news. My son is turning into another Joel. :) This summer there have been times when he is just going to bed when my husband is getting up. Then he sleeps until about 1:00. Last Saturday he didn't get up until 3 p.m.
