Light is coming to the poorest of the poor in the Philippines thanks to a project called "Litre of Light."

Wow a cheap yet effective skylight that really improves the lives of the poor; great!

I was just thinking that "skylight" is a much more appropriate description than "light bulb."

I recently saw an actual light bulb for the poor: http://www.nokero.com

I LOVED the video! Reminded me of Norm Shoemakers statement from 40 years ago...poking holes in the darkness!

Cynthia...thanks for posting this!

Thanks for sharing that. Living in the PHilippines I hadn't heard of the water bottle lights yet. The piece is spot on that electricity is expensive here. More so than even Tokyo or Hong kOng and this is a poor country so every bit of savings is needed. Part of my electric bill includes a portion for power which is often stolen by the shanties (or other thieves ). So I hope the water bottle lights idea takes off! I have seen buildings and schools made from the plastic soda bottles. They just fill them with dirt and stack them with mortar. VEry ingenious and insulating.
