BC Naznet had some good threads on PB. I remember this because PB is my favorite spread :) I prefer Smucker's Natural. Before I went natural, I preferred Jif and maybe Peter Pan once in a while. All creamy of course.

As one who has to watch every gram of fat I put in my body, I started eating the natural peanutbutter. My dietician told me to pour the oil off the top of the jar before stirring it, and to not refrigerate it. That takes off quite a bit of FAT from the top -- that's what I've been doing, and I love the thickness of the peanutbutter as a result. Good stuff.

"So the other day I was in the grocery store and I was looking for peanut butter. I look up on the shelves and they have: Creamy, Crunchy, Extra Crunchy, and Extreme Crunchy. I pick up the Extreme Crunchy and open it up and it is just a can of peanuts! I try to smear it on my bread, and it's like 'Oh yeah, THIS is radical!'" -Jim Gaffigan

I haven't bought name brand peanut butter in years. These days we buy the Wal-Mart brand, but the Kroger brand is good, too. Actually, the name brands taste funny to us now. :) I like crunchy, but we get smooth for other members of the family.

A few years back when there was a problem with Peter Pan peanut butter , Walmart Great Values brand was included as from the same source . Neither available here .
Also I didn't realize this was a multiple answer poll and would have checked creamy .

In the economy of our household, whatever is the lowest price.

Natural. Too many take out the peanut oil that's already there, and then add in hydrogenated oil in its place. Why not just leave it alone ... let the peanuts have their peanut oil instead of whatever other oil (hydrogenated, even) that they decide to add to it so it can once again have oil? AND, then add sugar, too ... peanut butter is fine as is ... no sugar. ;)

Some of it, tho', I've noticed, can be a bit harder to get mixed up than others. There's this place here that's a candy/nut sort of place who makes their own peanut butter, and it seems to have bigger pieces -- not ground so find -- and mixes rather well/easily, and tends to stay that way better than the more finely ground PB. Since I've found Cream Nut (by Koeze's), it's been my fave, tho' I was eating natural before that.

Although I do agree with you that this can make it harder to spread...I still prefer the taste.

Jif creamy!! Sometimes I will be Reese's or Peter Pan if they happen to be on sale. My husband will pick up the store brand, but I honestly prefer Jif.

Jif is our favorite also. We have tried others but nothing is as good as Jif!

I'm with you, Susan.
Smuckers all natural is the best. I buy 1 jar each of "creamy", and "chunky", then blend them together in a bowl. Then I spoon them back into the jars. They are well mixed, and the oil is distributed evenly.
So, then I have TWO jars.... and they don't last very long... that's because I'm a peanut butter addict. LOL

Yes, we took our jars back to Wal-Mart for a rebate. I think we bought Jif for a while until Wal-Mart's brand was back on the shelves.

We opted for peanut-butter roulette and ate every bit of the Peter Pan from our pantry while waiting for it to reappear in the stores. I had just stocked up on it and decided to view that fore-planning as fortuitous rather than a big mistake. That's how dedicated I am to Peter Pan. (We kept a jar of store-brand PB around to use in food we were going to share with people outside the family.)

Thus far, we're all still alive and well, although there's a good chance we will still die. The only question is whether we will be able to blame it on the Peter Pan.

Hello? Jif Creamy!

Actually, my family also likes the Kroger brand creamy peanut butter. It is pretty good, but Jif Creamy is the best....and probably the worst for you! Ha!

I had bought the jars in the states - Ogdensburg , NY . So what I was told to do was save the lids and mail them back to Conego(sp?) which I did on my next visit to the states . Had that happened now I'd have to have someone else mail them there for me as I can't cross the border at the present . Much cheaper to mail them from the states that from here , for sure .
It was during that recall that I discovered that Walmart brand was Peter Pan .

If y'all read the label, it does have some of that undesirable stuff in it.

Actually, noting this thread again, I tho't I'd add that since seeing this thread awhile ago, I've gotten to thinking that I need to find some almond butter again; been a long time, and it's reeeally good for you compared to peanut butter. Tastes great, too! ;)

It was interesting that a few years back that our missionaries in Kyev, Ukraine, Bob and Colleen Skinner, stated in Missionary Convention that the children of their mission area had never heard of peanut butter and they had found an inexpensive machine that created peanut butter out of peanuts and we took up an offering on the spot to fund some peanut butter machines. It is called Peanut Butter Evangelism.
