Hey NazNetters, Doug and I have an urgent question concerning emission control on cars, specifically '94 Cadillac.

We are going to my nieces wedding in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada. We have driven from Texas through Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana, and we began to hear a weird noise in the car.

Fortunately we didn't break down out there in the middle of no where.

We arrived here in Letheridge, Alberta, last night about 10:30 pm. When we came to a stop Doug could hear the noise and he thinks it is the emmisions control. It could be going out and he is concerned about it freezing up while we are out on the road and even throwing the fan belt off.

In June we were traveling and just as we came into Greenville, Tx., the water pump froze up and threw the fan belt off. We had to have the car towed to a Cad. dealer and get a rent a car to finish our trip out to West Texas.

Anyway that is Doug's fear of what could be happening to our car again. He doesn't know if the emmissions control pump would freeze the fan belt or effect the operation and running of the car.

Does anyone have knowledgeable information to share with us this morning?
We are in a Holiday Inn and the checkout time is in an hour, so, we really need replys in the next hour.

Prayers for guidance and help are also needed.

We know we need to get a new car, but this one was paid for, and we wanted to drive it as long as we could. I like the old car!!! :)

Anxously waiting for replies while I am packing and getting ready to check out of the motel.

I don't know about your specific car, but it seems to me that the same thing might happen -- if the air pump freezes up, the fan belt may break. If it were me, I would stop by a service station and have it checked.

Thanks, Dave, I show your reply to Doug. He has gone out to load some things in the car.

Our cell phone quite working, so in Montana we stopped at a Walmart and bought a tracphone thinking that would keep us covered for emergencies on the road. Would you believe it won't work in Canada? So, on top of car problems we are without cellphone, too.

I'm trusting the Lord to help us. Thanks for your quick reply and prayers.

What is disappointing to me is that I wanted to drive back home through Yellowstone National Park, and even travel over to Bryce to see all the pretty scenery that I have seen posted here on NazNet.

Again, good advice, thanks.

The air pump problem shouldn't prevent you from doing that. Replacing the air pump with a rebuilt one cost about the same as one tank of gas.

oh Grandma I hope everything is ok. car troubles are no fun anytime but especially that far from home!
prayers here...please keep us updated!

ps my car was making a funny whiring sound so I thought to check fluids and the tranny oil was low. so I put a bit in it and the sound is gone! let's hope it is something that simple!
