Mark and his family and I had a great week. We did some hiking and swimming and relaxing.
The "cottage" more effectionately known as the "cabin" is now officially 100 years old. It was built in the spring of 1906 on what was then called Bartlett Lake by the Bartlett family who still live in the Bancroft area. The lake is now called Salmon Trout Lake which neither has and salmon or trout in it!
Mark is still away for a few more days. He will post some of his pics when he returns. Here are some of mine...enjoy

That certainly does not look too primitive.
Try to get up there more often.
Was it warm enough to swim?

Hey Peter ... how is anyone supposed to find "the Cabin" ... you've got all the road signs hanging on the wall!?
Did you stop by and say "Hey" to my brother in Glen Alda?

Mark and Joanne are in Apsley for the weekend. They are even closer!
Those signs have been in the cabin since University years and have since been replaced with the ugly green municipal signs. I don't think they even missed them. We even have a number on the end of the driveway now.

Being that the area my cottage is in is on the Canadian Shield, we have many caves in the area. Here are a few pics of the cave about a 5 minute walk from the cabin. It is full of Feldsbar, Quartz and Mica.

Peter I have a cottage on the east side of the lake a couple cottages before Tate's point. My Grandfather Ross Robinson once owned a substantial part of the east side of the lake. My father built our cottage there 36 year ago. I have many great memories of this area.
All my time spent on the lake and exploring the area as a kid, I have never been to those caves. I think I know where your cabin is, I think it is at the north end of the lake on the point between the two bays. I use to fish in front of your cabin as a kid.
Could you explain to me where these caves are.

Chris!
Don't tell me the world is this small!? Pete is on Hybla rd. His cabin is next to where the lake crosses the rd. The only place that happens on Hybla. He is on the south end of the lake.

Actually, we are at the furthest south end of the lake. I used to have some friends at the north end of the lake 20 + years ago. Their last name was Duthie. They were the last bay on the east side, the one with the rock sticking out of the water.
The cave is on Hybla Rd., about 1 1/2 km west of the Musclow Greenview Rd. on the south side before the creek. Do you still go up. When are you going up next?

I am Three cottages away from Duthie's old place. Toward to the south. I will be up on the next long weekend.
Ok I know exactly where you are, your cabin is right at the Creek. I caught alot of crayfish there as a kid.
Can you see the cave from Hybla Rd? It must be at the top of the hill towards Musclow Greenview coming from the creek, is that right?

Hey Chris,
On Hybla Rd. cross over the culvert going east. There is a white cottage driveway on your right before the bend and hill in the road. The cottage overlooks a big swamp. Before you get to the cottage there is a pathway on your left. Go up there and the cave in on your left. Can't miss it.
Have fun eh!

There are other caves in the area as well. Better ones!
Going onto Hybla Rd. from Bancroft go as far along as the Cemetary on your left. I think the cross road is called Cross Country Rd. Turn right and carry on until you see on your left a trail going into the bush. It may be a 5 min. drive, not sure. There is a homemade painted sign that says Welcome to the old MacDonald Mine. It is about a 5 min. walk down the path. A very cool cave system. :fav18 That is the one I am climbing up side down. The cliffs are hugh and great to climb. You could spend the day there and sleep in the caves at night.
