We're about 40 miles from home at Surfside Beach, Texas for a few days. We're in a commercial RV park that's a stone's throw from the beach. The first is the view out our window.

Thanks for the pics. I love surfside beach. We have visited there several times while working with the church in Lake Jackson. From what I am hearing about the nature of the loop current, is it safe to assume that the east texas shoreline is safe for now from the oil?

We like Surfside Beach better than Galveston and they are about the same distance from our house. I don't think there's any danger from oil spill at this point. This is sea weed time here, so the beach isn't as nice as usual, still it's nice to enjoy it for a few days.

The seaweed is the best part. Pick some up that looks fresh and shake it. There's some really cool critters living in it.

I had to move out of the one I have been living because these weekenc rains have cause it to leak from the roof even though I have a tarp over those places.

Jackie and I took a chance on getting a break from the rain and drove down to Surfside Beach this morning. We were forced to flee back to the pickup for awhile because of torrential, tropical rain but we enjoyed walking out the jetty a ways. The surf is higher than usual, I think because of tropical storm Hermine a few hundred miles to the south. Still there were lots of people in the water and many fishing off the jetty.
At one point we spotted a couple of dolphin "body surfing" on the waves a hundred or so yards off the beach. They were jumping clear out of the water from the top of the larger-than-usual waves.
Seeing that behavior from the dolphins was the highlight of our outing.

We had a similar trailer totaly reroofed when it started to leak due freak accident; a branch that pierced the roofing. I was surprised how reasonable the repair cost was.
